Who can take betamethasone
Most adults and children can take betamethasone tablets.
Who may not be able to take betamethasone
Betamethasone tablets are not suitable for some people. To make sure they're safe for you, tell your doctor before starting to take this medicine if you:
- have ever had an allergic reaction to betamethasone or any other medicine
- have an infection, including an eye infection
- have recently been in contact with someone with shingles, chickenpox or measles
- have recently had, or are about to have, any vaccinations
- have ever had liver problems
- have ever had mental health problems, or if close family members have had mental health problems
- have any unhealed wounds
- have heart failure or you've recently had a heart attack
- have high blood pressure (hypertension)
- have diabetes
- have epilepsy
- have an eye condition called glaucoma
- have an underactive thyroid (hypothyroidism)
- have osteoporosis (weak bones)
- have a stomach ulcer
- are trying to get pregnant, are already pregnant or you're breastfeeding
