About Gaviscon

Gaviscon can be used to treat heartburn (acid reflux) and indigestion.

It works by forming a protective layer on top of the contents of your stomach. This helps to stop stomach acid moving up into your food pipe. Gaviscon also contains an antacid that helps with the pain and discomfort you get when your stomach produces too much acid.

Gaviscon comes as chewable tablets, or a liquid that you drink (in bottles or in sachets). It also comes as a powder for babies and children under 2 years old.

You can buy Gaviscon from shops and pharmacies for most people aged 12 years and over. Some kinds of Gaviscon, including those for children aged under 12 years, are available on prescription.
