Taking isotretinoin capsules with other medicines and herbal supplements

Cautions with other medicines

Some medicines and isotretinoin capsules can affect each other, and make it more likely that you'll have side effects.

Tell your doctor if you're taking any of these medicines before you start treatment with isotretinoin capsules:

  • tetracycline antibiotics such as doxycycline, oxytetracycline, minocycline or lymecycline
  • vitamin A or supplements containing vitamin A
  • other acne medicines, including acne medicines applied to the skin (using both together may make skin irritation worse)

Mixing isotretinoin capsules with herbal remedies and supplements

Tell your doctor if you're taking supplements that contain vitamin A before you start treatment with isotretinoin capsules. This is because isotretinoin is from a similar group of medicines.

There's very little information about the safety of taking other herbal remedies and supplements while you take isotretinoin capsules. They're not tested in the same way as pharmacy and prescription medicines. They're generally not tested for the effect they have on other medicines.

Important: Medicine safety

Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you're taking any other medicines, including herbal remedies, vitamins or supplements.
