Lidocaine and pregnancy
Lidocaine is generally considered safe to use during pregnancy. However, some lidocaine treatments for mouth and throat contain additional ingredients.
They may contain salicylates such as choline salicylate. Salicylates are related to aspirin and are generally not recommended in pregnancy, so always check the ingredients.
Ask a pharmacist or your midwife for advice if you have mouth ulcers or a sore throat. They will be able to recommend the best treatment for you.
Lidocaine and breastfeeding
Lidocaine is OK to use while breastfeeding. It is only likely to pass into breast milk in tiny amounts, which are very unlikely to cause side effects in your baby.
Always wash your hands after using a lidocaine treatment and before picking up your baby.

Lidocaine and fertility
There's no evidence to suggest that lidocaine treatments affect fertility in either men or women.
