Pregnancy, breastfeeding and fertility while taking molnupiravir

Molnupiravir and pregnancy

Molnupiravir is not recommended in pregnancy. It's important to use reliable contraception while you're taking molnupravir and for 4 days after your last dose so you do not get pregnant.

Contact your doctor if you are eligible for molnupiravir and you're pregnant. They may be able to offer you other treatments that can be taken in pregnancy.

If you're pregnant it's important you have the COVID-19 vaccine to help prevent the risk of severe illness from COVID-19.

Information:

Contact your doctor if you become pregnant while taking molnupiravir, or shortly after and report it to the UK COVID-19 Antivirals in Pregnancy Registry by phoning 0344 892 0909, or ask your doctor to do this for you.

Molnupiravir and breastfeeding

The manufacturers advise that breastfeeding is not recommended during treatment with molnupiravir and for 4 days after your last dose.

It's not known how much molnupiravir passes into breast milk.

Talk to your doctor if you are breastfeeding, further specialist advice is available to them. They can discuss with you your individual situation and the risks and benefits of treatment with molnupiravir when breastfeeding.

You can carry on breastfeeding if you have COVID-19, or if you’ve had a COVID-19 vaccine.

Molnupiravir and fertility

It's not known whether taking molnupiravir will affect fertility in either men or women.
