Cautions with other medicines
There are some medicines that may affect how olanzapine works.
Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you're taking any other medicines, including:
- carbamazepine, a medicine for epilepsy
- fluvoxamine, used to treat depression
- ciprofloxacin, an antibiotic
- medicines that make you feel calm or sleepy, including benzodiazepines, painkillers like morphine or tramadol, or antihistamines like chlorphenamine – olanzapine can increase the effects of these medicines and make you feel more sleepy
These are not all the medicines that may cause problems if you take them with olanzapine. For a full list, see the leaflet inside your medicine packet.
Mixing olanzapine with herbal remedies and supplements
Cannabidiol (also known as CBD) might affect how olanzapine works. Do not take cannabidiol while you're taking olanzapine.
There might be a problem taking some other herbal remedies and supplements with olanzapine, especially ones that make you feel sleepy or dizzy.
There's not enough information to say that other complementary medicines and herbal remedies are safe to take with olanzapine. They're not tested in the same way as pharmacy and prescription medicines. They're generally not tested for the effect they have on other medicines.
Important: Medicine safety
Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you're taking any other medicines, including herbal remedies, vitamins or supplements.
