Take your sodium cromoglicate capsules as your doctor has told you to. Check with them, or a pharmacist, if you're not sure how to take them.
Dosage
Sodium cromoglicate comes as 100mg capsules.
The usual dose is:
- adults or children aged 14 years and over – 2 capsules, 4 times a day
- children under 14 years – 1 capsule, 4 times a day
How to take it
Take your capsules, or give them to your child, before meals. Swallow them whole with a drink of water.
If you or your child find it hard to swallow capsules, you can:
- open the capsule
- empty the contents into a small amount of hot water (not too hot to drink)
- stir, and drink
How long to take it for
Do not stop taking your capsules until your doctor says it's OK, even if you feel better. If you stop, your allergies may come back or get worse.
If you forget to take it
If you forget to take a dose of sodium cromoglicate capsules, take it as soon as you remember, unless it's nearly time for your next dose. In this case, skip the missed dose and take your next one at the usual time.
Do not take 2 doses to make up for a forgotten dose.
If you often forget doses, it may help to set an alarm to remind you. You could also ask your pharmacist for advice on other ways to help you remember to take your medicine.
