Cautions with other medicines
If you are using other eye drops, they may work in a similar way to timolol. Tell your doctor if you are using:
- betaxolol
- levobunolol
Timolol eye drops are less likely to affect or be affected by other medicines than timolol tablets, but you should still tell your doctor if you’re taking any of the following medicines:
- medicines that can lower your blood pressure - these include, some antidepressants, nitrates (for chest pain), baclofen (a muscle relaxant), medicines for an enlarged prostate gland like tamsulosin, or Parkinson's disease medicines such as co-careldopa or levodopa
- medicines for an irregular heartbeat such as amiodarone or verapamil
- medicines for diabetes, particularly insulin – timolol eye drops may make it more difficult to recognise the warning signs of low blood sugar (hypoglycaemia)
Mixing timolol eye drops with herbal remedies and supplements
There's not enough information to say that herbal remedies and supplements are safe to take with timolol eye drops. They're not tested in the same way as pharmacy and prescription medicines. They're generally not tested for the effect they have on other medicines.
Important: Medicine safety
Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you're taking any other medicines, including herbal remedies, vitamins or supplements.
