Proxy application service - accessibility statement - Version 3.2, 3 October 2024

Introduction

This accessibility statement applies to the Proxy application service, also known as Apply for proxy access and Manage health services for others.

This minor update is prompted by a review against the WCAG 2.2 AA accessibility standard and some small content changes within the service.

The start page is on the NHS website and is covered by the NHS website accessibility statement.

You can use this online service to nominate someone to get secure access from your GP surgery to your own health services, or to apply for access to another patient's health services.

This service is run by NHS England. We want as many people as possible to be able to use the service.

For example, that means you should be able to:

  • change colours, contrast levels and fonts
  • zoom in up to 300% without the text spilling off the screen
  • navigate most of the website using just a keyboard
  • navigate most of the website using speech recognition software
  • listen to most of the website using a screen reader (including the most recent versions of JAWS, NVDA and VoiceOver)

We have also made the website text as simple as possible to understand.

AbilityNet has advice on making your device easier to use if you have a disability.

How accessible this website is

We know some parts of this service are not fully accessible:

  • you will not be able to use this service if you do not have JavaScript enabled on your browser
  • you cannot skip to the main content using keyboard navigation or a screen reader

We are still developing this service and are working to fix these issues.

This website is partially compliant with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines version 2.2 AA standard, due to the non-compliances listed below.

Non-accessible content

The content listed below is non-accessible for the following reasons.

Non-compliance with the accessibility regulations

Operability

The service does not work if you have JavaScript disabled on your browser. This fails Success Criterion 2. Operability.

We are working to improve this, although some components are reliant on NHS login and its use of JavaScript. See the NHS login accessibility statement.

What we're doing to improve accessibility

We're still developing the service and are continuing testing, using automated tests and by testing with users who commonly experience access barriers. Improvements are added to our backlog.
