Review titled Ultra Efficient
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Gary Harber - Posted on 05 October 2024
I was booked in for day surgery yesterday and after the op the nursing staff looked after me so well. They were kind, efficient and caring and responded to all my questions. I would highly recommend the treatment and service I received on Tavistock Ward Day Care Centre. Gratefully, Gary.

After a bit of a traumatic birth experience, I had the most amazing experience with the midwifery team , each and every single one of you were so amazing, especially a certain lady who helped deliver our baby via c section. I do not have bad word to say about my care for the 4 days i was in. Great team of people you got there. We are so thankful.

Review titled Above Expectation in A&E
Rated 4 stars out of 5
by Justine P - Posted on 31 July 2024
I arrived at A&E on a Sunday morning after having fallen and suspected I had broken a bone. Whilst the lack of wheelchair meant I had to hop through the waiting room to the triage area, I managed. I was given crutches but struggled as there was not a lot of space and I had never used them before. After falling again a wheelchair was found. The process from there on was efficient and professional despite it being a busy Sunday morning. The Nurse practitioner was knowledgeable, kind and understanding. She gave me all the information required, ensured that I had a prescription promptly and plastered me to be released. From entry to having an assessment, xray, xray review and plaster was less than 4 hours. I had expected to spend a lot longer than that and so I am thankful for the NHS and perhaps the timing of my visit! The follow up with the Fracture/trauma clinic arrived as promised and that visit was not as good as the process is inefficient with patients checking in upstairs, being sent downstairs for xray, then going back upstairs having their consultation and plaster etc and then having to wait another hour to get a prescription fulfilled. Pharmacy has always been a problem at Bedford hospital and it would be good to have that improved as I know from experience it causes bed blocking and client frustration.

Review titled Poor service
Rated 2 stars out of 5

I went to A&E with a very rapid heart rate, chest pain and feeling very unwell. I also had Covid and once I had told them that I was treated like I didn’t matter. I was put in a room that was dirty and left for over an hour without seeing anyone. It was only due to another patient seeking help for me that they remembered I was there. It took someone 40 mins to answer a bell and the communication between drs and myself was shocking no one seemed to know what was going on and I was left in rooms for hours without anyone checking I was ok. The care was shocking and saddening as I just didn’t feel I received any. I was relieved to leave and it certainly was an eye opener to the services in Bedford and disappointingly all were very negative

Review titled Excellent Service
Rated 5 stars out of 5

Over the past six months I’ve been to the Hospital on numerous occasions. Firstly A&E and then as an out patient in Haematology and Cardiology. I have to compliment on all occasions that I’ve needed to visit that everyone has been very professional and supportive of my concerns. This afternoon (27th) I had the pleasure of visiting the MRI department where I found the area spotless and the staff couldn’t have been anymore caring in welcoming you and ensuring you were fully briefed on what was going to happen, the lady even told me how long was left throughout the procedure. Great team effort.

Review titled Professional and kind service.
Rated 5 stars out of 5

Following days of central chest pain, I contacted 111. Within 30 mins a paramedic arrived, did ekg's (capitals not allowed) and noting my high blood pressure took me to the Accident & Emergency. The dept was calm but busy, I was seen by 3 nurses and a Doctor, all of whom were kind and efficient. Different tests were made and I was able to come home after being given a diagnosis and things to do that would help. I am so appreciative of the National Health Service and these hard working employees here in Bedford. Despite being busy, they were all professional and calm. Having experience of American healthcare, I realise just how lucky we are to have the nhs ( apparently you are not allowed to use words with capitals on your reviews) here in the United Kingdom.

Review titled Dirty and dangerous
Rated 1 star out of 5
by Horrified NHS employee - Posted on 05 March 2024
I was referred to ED by urgent care on a Friday afternoon with suspected sepsis. I had to push for treatment within the 'golden hour' and was informed that they were busy. The two rooms I was in were dirty, with blood on surfaces in both, as well as dust and other people's rubbish. I had no observations taken for 3 hours after admission, until I requested them. Staff were only polite and helpful after they realised I work within the NHS. It was an awful experience and I'll never return to Bedford hospital for treatment

Worst ever service, not professional. Missed a call due to office work and never bothered to call to check for pregnancy appointment.

I arrived at cardiac cathertisation suite at Beedon House, was dealt with quickly and could not fault anything. The nurses were lovely, friendly and caring. I had my procedure and again the doctor and staff whilst I was having the procedure were great and telling me what was going on and what to expect. I did feel a bit stressed but wanted to say a big Thank you to all the staff for making this a stressless experience.

I had witnessed nurses on the ward laughing/chatting away loudly whilst my best friend and family was spending time with their mum after she had suddenly died on the ward. It was unprofessional and shouldn’t have happened. One nurse particular holded the curtain stepping some way in the area where we was saying goodbye but head out the other facing the ward laughing with another colleague which I found to be disrespectful and so thoughtless!
