  1. Review titled SDEC staff

Rated 4 stars out of 5

by Jackie Martin - Posted on 23 May 2024

My mother was referred to SDEC by our GP for blood transfusions. It was a very long day due to the nature of the procedure, but this was made bearable by the kind and caring staff in that department. My mother is nearly 90 and was quite frightened as our day started so early, but we were dealt with pretty quickly and she was offered sandwiches and drinks, and made to feel comfortable. I was kept informed at all times as to what was happening and when. We both felt very relaxed and looked after throughout the day and the transfusions were dealt with efficiently. I have no doubt she will need more in the future, and our experience yesterday has made her feel more relaxed about further visits. Thank you all very much.

  2. Review titled The most stressful unjoined up care experience

by Anonymous - Posted on 11 April 2024

Relative was discharged, then worsened. Treated poorly by ambulance crew. Then held in A&E for 4 days before going to a ward, in a dirty, stuffy assessment bay. Nurses did their best but could not provide round the clock care that was needed. So much advocacy was needed for basic things, like food and medicine. When I managed to get through to PALS (took two days), a room appeared. But patient was rushed out. Constant care plan and discharge changes, not done in collaboration with patient or family. Threatened to discharge a vulnerable elderly patient at 7pm at night. Contradicting opinions given all the way through. So stressful. We will never go back. It’s full of amazing people but it’s broken. A sad state of affairs when you feel being in hospital is more detrimental to your health than being at home - despite needing care.

  6. Review titled Radiotherapy

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Michael Davis - Posted on 10 January 2024

Absolutely brilliant staff. So knowledgeable, friendly, humorous and relaxing. They made something I was approaching with a lot of trepidation wholly relaxing and comforting. The procedure itself was carried out with obviously very much knowledge and professionalism. Superb treatment. Thank you very much all, including the radiotherapy manager who was extremely helpful.

I was very nervous about going in for day surgery. I don’t know what I was worried about because everybody who helped and spoke to me was a pleasure to be around. So friendly and reassuring from start to finish, I knew I was in good hands.

  8. Review titled A&E - impressive

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 14 January 2024

Went to A&E at 8.15am today and was home by 9.30am!!! Have a tiny break in my elbow. Was seem almost immediately in the porta-cabin then sent to Injuries clinic (porta-cabin next to it!) - seen in 15 mins. Went to X Ray - seen immediately. Returned to injuries clinic and seen within 10 mins!!! Everyone was extremely helpful, friendly, patient with my numerous questions and kind. Managed to use my blue badge and park outside which was great as I was feeling very faint. Was dreading going there today and it was incredibly impressive and quick. 👍🏼

  9. Review titled Most nurses do not even care

by Anonymous - Posted on 18 May 2024

I was rushed in an ambulance with severe pain due to gastric attack, the ambulance staff took care of me well and walked me in carefully and reported my severity of pain due to acid reflux and gastric attack, only hoping they are going to give me some medicine to ease the pain until a doctor sees me. My pain started getting bad to worse that I cried in pain and walked to the nurse sitting in A&E reception who gives me a stern look like it’s just nothing. I requested and begged that I can wait even for hours but if I could have something to ease my pain, the only reply comes from then sorry you will have to wait. After begging explaining my pain he and she who were switching roles took nearly 1/2 an hour later comes with a medication. This went for hours ( went in at 11.30 and seen by doctor past 5.30 pm) with on n off pain which comes and goes got severe that my cry was just ignored by nurses , only other patients around me comforted me rubbing my back and giving me water. Some even went up the nurses explaining my pain and the only answer that comes from them was yes we are aware but need to wait for the doctor. I couldn’t complain about all nurses, there were some Asian nurses who atleast looked ways to help or atleast got my medicines much faster than other nurses. We understand there are more patients and less staff but my only concern is when patients rush to A&E in pain - can’t the nurses show some compassion to get advices from doctors and treat the patients to ease the pain until seen by a doctor. -The waiting room is congested in such a tiny space to sit. Why can’t they treat the most concerned cases in prior who are more vulnerable. - knowing less staff for years ,as patients we have not seen any progress. We are not worried of sickness or unfortunate situations where we need to rush to the hospital, we are worried how poorly we are looked into with no compassion and the waits for hours gives us more stress and anxiety than the real sickness itself. It’s too sad that we people get such poor treatments in A&E.

  10. Review titled Nice nurses and some nice doctors

Rated 4 stars out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 14 November 2023

The nurses where extremely friendly but the doctors vary on their friendliness. The site facilities were nice but food is served so there is no need to use them if you don't want to. Cleanliness is good and the addition of soft seating in the A&E waiting area is a great addition. On Mondays and Tuesdays there seems to be a lot of overcrowding.
