Review titled Medicine Madness
Rated 1 star out of 5
by Anonymous - Posted on 04 September 2024
Obtaining my medication to prevent the regrowth of a tumour is a long and difficult task .I send an email request to the consultants secretary .I contact pharmacy there is no prescription.I contact the hotline explaining I will have no medication by Friday. They send an email.I ring pharmacy on Friday .They have no prescription .I contact the hotline . After a bit of a wait they tell me my prescription is being processed. .It arrived there on Friday 23 days after my request . There has been no communication to me from the department I attend . The difficulties in this process change with every request . I now have no confidence or trust that my situation will ever return to a process that was easy , timely and stress free . My consultant has tried to help me to no avail .

Review titled Couldn't be in better hands than at The Christie
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Christine Yates - Posted on 16 August 2024
After my diagnosis during pathology, 2021 it was decided that I need a further operation to ensure the tumor had been completely removed. I was 1st referred to an oncologist at another hospital and he was a horrible little man, he treated me like a child, shouted at me for asking the nurse a question while he was drawing me a diagram a 3 year-old would do better. I left there thinking no way this man is opening me up. I wrote to my GP and asked to be referred to The Christie and they have been amazing. . They offered my operation, which they explained could be done 3 ways and then recommended the best, they explained to me how rare my tumour was and put under the care of 2 depts to keep an eye on me in the future. I have been quite a few times and nearly every time I have been I am in/out within an hour and half. That is seeing the consultant and having tests (bloods , xrays etc) Mri & Ct usually done at a seperate appt. Only once have I had a delay of around 6 hours and this was around re-opening after covid . But when I think they spent over 1 and half hours with me at my initial appt I wasn't bothered as everyone deserves the same treatment. During that time there was one horrible humin being, on a mobility scooter, harassing all the staff, demanding to be seen and eventually said " if you shout me I'll be outside having a cig" 🤷🤷. As an in patient i was in overnight after my operation and the whole procedure was explained to me beforehand and everyone involved in the op and the aftercare were amazing, I felt so at ease from the minute I walked through the doors at 7am to leaving the next day at about 2pm. Bonus the food was delicious too . Thank you to the whole hospital, the research departments, the specialist units that a normal oncologist cannot deal with. This is one unique hospital

Review titled Pharmacy Department 14

I waited for more than an hour to collect the medicines. My ticket indicated 30 minutes and the pharmacist made me wait for over an hour without giving me the medicines. They send you to the doctor just to know the department ot the area, they are very disorganised and make the patient nervous just to collect his medicines.

Review titled Disappointed

My experience at first was promising, met lovely consultant and my designated nurse. My news is not good but have been given some hope. Then it goes a bit pear shaped . Nurses must be to busy I can’t get to speak to my nurse on the same day, Had an appointment waited two and a half hours Doctor walking about trying to find a room. Patients turned up who should have been getting telephone calls that day. We all have enough to deal with without all this disorganisation. One time had to speak on the corridor which I find unacceptable. A bit of respect and kindness goes a long way please.

Review titled The good and bad
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Anonymous - Posted on 04 March 2024
Following a period of otherwise first class care and support it has been distressing to learn of an in patients experience of the last 24 hours. Moved wards late at night, filthy bathrooms meaning they could not shower, missing medication and a nurse apologising it was because she’d been off two weeks (so not alert), and sharing the reason for ward move was to make way for a dying patient. The learning I think is better communication. Don’t move too late, just apologise for lack of meds, and don’t share re dying patient with one who may be facing same soon, very sad though this all is. But clean so all can use the shower. Ever grateful for otherwise excellent care and support but last day has been horrid.

Review titled No follow up
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Anonymous - Posted on 21 January 2023
I expected follow up appointments after cancer treatment. When Covid came it seems cancer follow ups were unnecessary. Follow ups were then over the phone and were then made a permanent arrangements. This is not ideal for the patient who liked the reassurance of a physical examination and blood tests. We as patients do not have the medical knowledge of Doctors or the many years of training. I am told this situation is to continue indefinitely due to Covid. They do not want patients in this Hospital. It will become somewhat of a white elephant if patients cannot enter resulting is more preventable deaths from cancer. There is no point in money being spent on research when there are no patients

Review titled Radiology Department
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Ian Murray - Posted on 04 November 2022
I accompanied my wife Joan who attended the department yesterday for an 8.00am appointment for a ct scan. The scan flagged up a small blood clot on her lung and the young man conducting the scan called me from the waiting room to explain what he had found. He described the issue and answered our questions and concerns in a calm and reassuring manner and proposed that my wife be seen by a team from the aacu for further examination once a place became available. Subsequently, a place did become available early afternoon and he was kind enough to accompany us to the corridor entrance to the unit. The staff at the unit were equally welcoming and reassuring and went to considerable efforts to explain the issue and what was proposed by way of treatment. We received absolutely first class help and consideration throughout our visit and this email is to mark our grateful thanks to all the staff who assisted us at a worrying time. As a retired company director I can appreciate the daily challenges of running a large organisation with many disparate departments so it's thanks also to those behind the scenes who are rarely, if ever, seen by patients and who help facilitate and support the clinical staff. Your work is very much appreciated, thank you.
