  1. Review titled Good Experience

Rated 5 stars out of 5

Partner went in to A+E with high temperature, photophobia and head pain, A+E were great, got him in to his own room so he could have the lights off within an hour and half of arriving, to start with we were asked about possible migraine but after explaining his normal character they soon looked into other possible viruses/ illness. They suspected flu but also queried meningitis. He soon went off for a head scan and was kept up with pain relief and given an antibiotic that targeted a variety of different things to try and find/ help whatever was causing the symptoms. He didn’t get tested for flu until just before being moved to a ward. A+E staff were great, food was good and they even gave visitors hot drinks and occasional food, he got moved to a ward just short of being in A+E for 23 hours as they were very busy and he needed his own room due to the suspected meningitis and photophobia. Once in the ward the room hadn’t been sorted since having the last patient in there, a cleaner did come in shortly afterwards to clean the sink area etc but after being in there for nearly 2 days we found out the commode that was in the room had been left from the previous patient and had been used. My partner wasn’t told he was flu positive, a nurse mentioned it after she thought we were told. My partner was due to have a LP and had it later on the next day (moved ward the previous evening), I couldn’t fault the senior and junior that did the LP, the senior supervised the junior closely but all I’d say is the junior could of used more communication when doing the procedure to ease my partner and to notify him what was happening at each stage of the LP. I stayed the first night with him as we were in our own room and I thought it wouldn’t be a problem, had 3 nurses come and do obs throughout the night and didn’t say anything but in the morning (8:30am) a senior nurse told me I shouldn’t of stayed the night and that I had to go until visiting hours started at 10am. Food in the ward was good but my partner nearly missed out on tea one evening as he was asleep when they arrived and they didn’t leave him anything so I had to ask for something once I was back after their tea allocated time. My partner was discharged the next day after the LP due to it coming back clear and feeling himself again.

  3. Review titled Appalling

Rated 1 star out of 5

Urgent Care Evenings - Patients just sit there waiting, no communication between patients and staff, only one nurse and one receptionist. The nurse was either in a room with the door closed on her own or sitting with the receptionist chatting. There was one doctor who seemed efficient, coming out, calling names loudly and clearly, then after consultation instructing the nurse what needed to be done. He ended his duty or went elsewhere leaving just one doctor. This doctor was perhaps out of retirement and had returned to help out was my guess ? He was hard of hearing himself, he was not able to use the computer, he was very difficult to understand and was just forgetting that he had patients waiting outside to see him. At one point he was behind his closed door for over half an hour without any patients, by his own admission he thought he didn’t have anyone to see. Well, perhaps the nurse or receptionist ought to have been keeping an eye on the waiting room and not sitting having a chat. Besides me there were four others waiting to see him, his room was vacant; he was inside it, he wasn’t coming out, the nurse and receptionist just chatting, the doctor who seemed to have something about him, gone. Radiology : The two men on duty were both appallingly rude, left patients sitting there wondering if they were in the right place, what should they do ? The man behind the screen made no eye contact nor acknowledged he had heard my name, address and date of birth. The other man was very difficult to understand, he was unhelpful, rude and with an aggressive tone of manner and the actual room was unprepared. No way were they cleaning the bed and equipment in between patients. They didn’t want to be there I don’t think and perhaps it was a total inconvenience that one had just been for their food and they had to leave it because a queue had formed. A & E waiting room is 6 chairs huddled together in what would have been a nursing bay, one patient next to me spewing up sick, another coughing and another talking loudly and constantly on his mobile phone. If I come down with Covid or a tummy bug this weekend I know where I caught it from. A & E section overall is just unkempt, it needs a good clean and kept clean 24/7. I’m disgusted really. I know the building itself is falling down and the Staff can’t do anything about that but Management can at least employ Staff who have an excellent command of the English language and are able to carry out their duties with pleasantness not down right rudeness. Perhaps when all the day Staff have gone home, there ought to be some one to oversee the efficiency of cleanliness and smooth running of A & E, Urgent Care and Radiology - seems they are a law unto themselves in the evening and patients are not of paramount importance nor is cleanliness.

  4. Review titled Excellent care

Rated 5 stars out of 5

I arrived at A&E not being able to properly communicate and struggling to breath and swallow so my mum came along and from the start the fist person we spoke to was understanding of the situation that I couldn’t speak very well and allowed my mum to help out. After waiting in the waiting room for a bit I was called to the doctor and she was incredible helpful as giving me all the information and making sure I understood. Later I was put on an IV and she made sure to explain everything and why she was using it and what it would do which reassured me as I knew what was going on aswell as this she updated my mum so she knew too. After we went back into the waiting room and waited to be called through for a checkup to see if it had had any effect and she gave me the option to stay an hour and she’d hand over to a night doctor if I felt to anxious to go home or I could go home with antibiotics and see how it goes which I think shows alot of care for the patients welfare. Overall one of the best experiences I’ve had with A&E and all staff were lovely.

  5. Review titled Professional, efficient and kind care under stress

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Helen - Posted on 29 October 2024

I attended the emergency department on an extremely busy evening. I had breathing difficulties so was fairly anxious, but the environment and staff attitudes felt safe and efficient. The team on duty, worked tirelessly and cheerfully under trying conditions. Each professional was a credit to the hospital. I didn't require admission or much care but watching them explain everything to each patient. The consultant whom I saw was reassuring, competent and took the time to answer any questions. I have rarely had to visit an emergency department but this quality of care was a pleasure to expreince.

  6. Review titled Amazing hospital and staff

Rated 5 stars out of 5

My mother recently became very unwell ending up on Necton Ward for 2 weeks where she received first class care and support. My mother was very poorly when she was admitted with a complex and devastating diagnoses but crucially she was terrified of what was about to happen to her - but the staff were amazing and their care, love and support have had the most positive impact imaginable on her. It’s one of the best wards I’ve been on, the staff are inspirational and sone of the most amazing individuals I’ve met. They are patient focused and very engaged with their patients, taking the time to get to know them all individually to provide individual care. It’s astonishing to watch and was humbling during a very difficult time. As a family we cannot thank the team enough for the love and care they showed our mother. She conquered many of her fears with you by her side. Thank you. We face an uncertain time but we will be forever grateful for you all. The hospital itself is also one of the best I’ve been in, it’s clean, organised and surprisingly calm and quiet. It’s a gem of a hospital. Thank you.

  7. Review titled Brilliant in all respects

Rated 5 stars out of 5

I wish to congratulate the trust for the care, consideration and courtesy with which I have been treated throughout the discovery and journey of lung cancer treatment. I have met exemplary conduct through a&e, wards and particularly the Macmillan treatment centre where my fourth and possibly final chemotherapy session has just been completed. Congratulations to all staff and thank you.

  8. Review titled Excellent care

I recently had major surgery at QEH and the level of care was exceptional. From being admitted into Holmes unit, through to surgery and then through to the Sandringham unit for aftercare was brilliant. Everyone was kind, caring and made me feel at ease as I was very scared ( never stayed in hospital before apart from having my 2 children ). Thank you to you all from the bottom of my heart

  10. Review titled excellent service

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Jon Silver - Posted on 08 August 2024

My 86 year old mum called an ambulance at 11.30pm on Monday 05/0802024. The ambulance crew were first class and could not have been kinder. At the QE hospital mum was assessed, tested and blood work done all while still in the ambulance ( lack of space in A&E) not the staff's fault. The ambulance crew kept her comfortable and in good spirit's with their cheeky banter. By 3am mum was out of the ambulance and in A&E proper. After more tests and a trip to x-ray she was allowed home around 4pm. The staff, nurse's, doctor's and consultants were all fantastic. A big thank's too you all. A special shout out to the crew of ambulance 175 who are from Bury St Edmunds, you guy's are the best. mum is recovering well, our NHS is the best.
