Review titled So Refreshing, what a rare and amazing experience
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Andrew James Spazzmo - Posted on 27 September 2024
Hello, just a brief and wholly inadequate expression of my appreciation. In the last few months I have had Endoscopy and Bronchoscapy investigations and biopsies at Glenfield hospital, Leicester. On 3 appointments I have met some truly amazing people. With roots originating ess ew dan, India, Zimbabwe and white causian etc., I am rubbish for remembering names, by the way, and all the other members of the team. After 33 years working and living in regions ranging from West Asia, aka The Middle East, to East Asia, and reluctantly returning back to England in 2017, what an an amazingly caring and holistically empathetic experience. I have become rather sceptical, not cynical, of the default belligerence of our Nations current population, and try to have empathy for how you all became that way. Not easy for this expat of 30 plus years, I promise you. I tend to handle my nervousness and anxiety with good humour and a jovial attitude. From the receptionist at the main entrance, yes even the oft abused front line receptionist, wow, to doc ess sue daan, I received the most incredibly caring attention, assurance and empathy. No need to publish this, but I would like you to pass it on to your incredible team. I have no pain, no discomfort and currently coughing up a lot of the flegm that seems to have been loosened by the procedure. I feel really good this morning. Thank you so much, Andrew

I was fortunate enough to qualify to go onto a trial with Hope and they have proven to me that they are the most wonderful and caring people looking after me.

Review titled Not contacted

I have an annual outpatient consultation with Gastroenterology LRI which has always been excellent. In recent years appointments have been by telephone conversation. I recieved my letter and text reminder for the appointment saying do not visit the hospital it would be a call. On the day there was no call from Gastroenterology. I waited with my phone for hours, thinking perhaps there was a delay. I assumed that something urgent must have happened in LRI Gastroenterology so I would hear about a rescheduled appointment. That was 2 weeks ago. I haven't had a letter or text for an alternative appointment, although I did recieve a text message yesterday asking why "I" had missed it in the first place... hmm. Anyway, I hope my consultant still works for the hospital. He was fabulous and I would be so upset if I had been forgotten about by someone else who doesn't know me. There's nothing worse feeling like a number is there and with my bowel condition it is reassuring to know one has support if one should need it in the future. If my consultant has retired I wish him all the best and a massive thank you. If I have a new consultant I do hope the hospital endeavours to let outpatients know of the change in due course.

Review titled Incredibly kind team
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Katie Murrell - Posted on 21 June 2023
I had a scan today with the LRI radiology team and was very nervous, especially as it was quite an invasive and very uncomfortable procedure for me. Having had an ultrasound the month before at a different hospital where the staff ignored me and talked to each other throughout, I didn't expect much. Couldn't have been further from my experience today. The team were wonderfully kind and supportive, very empathetic and communicative throughout. I felt extremely safe and supportive in their hands. I genuinely felt that they cared about my wellbeing and i honestly can't thank them enough for their kindness.

Review titled Great care
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Jean Sulman - Posted on 10 July 2023
I was admitted to Glenfield hospital for a lung resection on 5th June. I was very impressed with the standards and level of the care I received from being admitted to being discharged. The surgeons were very approachable great bedside manner and very professional. The nurses looking after me in HDU daytime and evening were outstanding. If I had to award medals they would all be gold.

Review titled Fantastic acute care
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Debra Magorian - Posted on 05 May 2023
I collapsed in Co op store on Narborough road last Friday 28/2/23 suffering a seizure. Having past experience of the old accident and emergency as a nurse I was not looking forward to being a patient but was very surprised at the improvements. Right from the beginning the first responder and ambulance team were caring and reassuring. When we arrived at the Leicester Royal Infirmary we went to the ambulance led pod which continued with high care standards. However I was dreading going into majors based on past experiences as a stroke nurse and regular visits to the emergency department in the past. I cannot express how much I was impressed with everything about majors and acute medical unit later. The environment is calm with emphasis on high standards of care, privacy and dignity. I remember how open and unsettling the old emergency department was and you’ve certainly made massive improvements. The staff on both the emergency department and the acute medical unit were professional, caring and provided a calming environment. I am a Loros nurse and have very high standards and all involved did not disappoint. This experience has completely changed my view of acute care at University Hospital Trust and you should be hugely congratulated in this high level of care

Review titled Cancelled operation 5 times
Rated 2 stars out of 5
by Wendy - Posted on 07 March 2023
Was booked in to have a minor operation ( minor to them major to me ) this was changed 4 times then. Last one cancelled fro saturday to tuesday then saturday was xalled to see where is was . Clearly they hadnt cancelled appointment so rang to make sure i was on tuesdays list. day of surgery ( today ) we drove an hour to hospital having to be there for 7am . For me to have tests and gowned up to be told I'm 3rd in list I have bad medical anxiety. I am also diabetic. I sit for 8 hours yes 8 hours to then be told they cancelling again . The first person's surgery is a complex case . Even the nurses said they knew this and didn't know why people was booked in after. Got myself so worked up I physically made myself ill. This is not on . I informed my nurse at my pre op about my anxiety attacks and was told if I am worried it may help to write letters to my loved ones . ( like that really didn't help) Not a happy person at moment knowing I need this op but can't see myself going through with it now

Review titled Biopsy Results Time Scales ?
Rated 4 stars out of 5
by David Hayes - Posted on 29 November 2022
As a Londoner who moved to Leicestershire some years ago. I have nothing but praise for Leicester nfs ! However, following a prostate Biopsy taken on the 19th with results expected in 7days, only to be told, it’s in the Lab and there is no set performace deadline ie could be ..a cupple weeks before getting the results ? What’s the point of getting men tested if there is a blockage in the system to provide answers ? I have several meetings booked out of town where people will rely on me. We need fixed dates from the Lab when results will be provided called “Performance” or simple management. Just a small nudge and simple to solve ?
