Review titled Fantastic Inpatient Experience under the Respiratory Team
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Anonymous - Posted on 21 February 2024
I have recently had a 2 week admission to the Respiratory Ward. The medical team, the nurses and the care staff were fantastic. I work in the NHS myself and I am aware how stretched the services are at present. Communication was excellent, and I was always given detailed explanations, time to ask questions and I never felt rushed. When I needed urgent medical attention it was quick and effective. Though I waited a long time in A/E the care I received there was also good. I would like to thank all Whittington Hospital staff for providing great patient care at what are challenging times in the NHS.

The CT scan and the Imaging department are great. Had a CT scan which I was nervous about as was my 1st time. The staff from I got there were great and friendly. From 1st booking in to been encouraged to drink the preperation been escorted to change into my gown. Cannot praise them enough. I left feel comfortable mainly because of how I was treated.

Review titled Efficient imaging department

I was very impressed with my experience at the Whittington imaging department last week. The hospital was clean, the staff were welcoming. I was seen within minutes of my booked appointment time slot. The radiologist was really helpful and thorough and explained the findings of my scan to me. It was good to see they were training doctors which is obviously important in a teaching hospital. I received the results within 24hours. I couldn’t have got a better service if I had paid to go privately. I feel lucky to have such a great local hospital.

Review titled Sad and frustated

I have always gone to another hospital for emergencies but had heard Whittington was great, and closer to my house. I wish I hadn’t gone. I came in suspecting I had bronchitis for the second time as I couldn’t breathe properly and even in triage nothing was right. The nurse (male) wouldn’t let me speak and didn’t want to know what medicines I took (note that I’m diabetic). Later I was called for an Electrocardiogram and the nurse who was going to perform it was eating and talking to his colleagues, all with the curtains open. Then, he asked if I wanted to put on a hospital gown, but when I said no, he noticed I wasn’t wearing a bra and made me put on one anyways (I like to think they have seen patients naked before?). But the last drop was when he was about to do a blood test. I have constant blood tests as a diabetic person and told him my good arm is usually the left one as my veins (and my whole family’s) are hard to find. He ignored me and said it varies from who’s doing the test and went on to put the elastic band on my right arm (without even looking at the other one). He left the room (while having me with the band and my arm swelling, still talking to his colleagues) to get a needle, and when I asked him to please let me know when poking he laughed and asked if that’s not how they did it in other places. Finally, he pinched me and, surprise, no blood was coming out, as it always happens on my right arm. Then instead of taking the needle off he started moving it around and poking it in and out until I started having an anxiety attack and asked him to remove it as it was obviously not working. After that he left and someone came to listen to my chest and I tried to tell them I had used a bronchodilator before coming but he said it didn’t make a difference. Meaning, I left the hospital worse than I came in, with a bruise on my arm and terrible anxiety.
