Review titled Convenient and competent care, but poor communication
Rated 3 stars out of 5

I attended for an ultrasound scan, my first ever gynaecological examination, in my mid-50s. Communication between staff and to patients is poor: The website doesn’t say that it has a radiology department, so there was no information on its location, staff or policies; ACfH assumes that you know where it is, and doesn’t tell you, for example, that it’s on the Number 1 bus route; The building is hard to navigate if you’re there for the first time, with a complex layout that’s poorly signposted; There’s no phone signal in the building on the lower floors, and nothing to read whilst waiting; I wasn’t told anything about the chaperoning policy - only that I might be examined by a male or female practitioner - or whether I could bring anyone with me; The radiographer had different instructions for the examination from the ones I had, that we were going to start with a less invasive scan first, that necessitated having a full, not empty, bladder. The examination room was rather poorly equipped, with an examination couch that was uncomfortably narrow for a gynaecological procedure, and there was no opportunity to see any of the scan on the radiographer’s screen. I wasn’t given the gown that my appointment letter said I would have for the internal examination, but flimsy and rather narrow disposable tissue instead. The manner of the professionals examining me was very good - they were kind and respectful, and seemed to be competent; but even then, I wasn’t given the answer to a specific question I had asked, as to whether my ovaries were showing any sign of still functioning, which is an important factor in diagnosing my symptoms.
