This mental health outpatients team is absolutely useless. When I've seen the pyschiatrists there, they don't write up their notes properly. So when I get my letters from them after my meetings, some of the information on my follow up letters are incorrect. The shrinks I seen just throw medication at you but I've never been referred to specialist mental health therapies. People need therapy as well as medication. Medication alone aren't going to fix someone with chronic or severe mental health issues. Plus, I always feel when I talk about my mental health issues, I don't feel believe by the pyschiatrists. Because I look normal and sound OK to them, they assume there's nothing seriously wrong with me. But people with even severe mental health issues/developmental disorders can still look healthy and sound OK on the outside. Severe mental illness or neurological developmental disorders are hidden disabilities so we aren't going to look a certain way. But sadly, some doctors want you to look dishevelled and sound like something out of an asylum in their meetings. Mental health professionals need to be more open minded and understand everyone is different with their mental health issues. I understand it isn't easy working in the nhs but I feel that mental health services don't offer any therapeutic value to their patients. People like myself need more community support, like therapies, care coordinators, home help, occupational therapy, nutrition advice, social activities in the community, group therapy, etc. We don't want just pills popping down our throats.

Terrible service, you leave message for them to contact you about your medication once a week for 3wks and no reply or response from them. Try to find an alternative if you can is my advice.
