Review titled Mis-diagnosed
Rated 2 stars out of 5
by Anonymous - Posted on 04 July 2023
I came in with serious foot pain, and suspected the injury was either a stress fracture or tendonitis. The Centre refused to x-ray the injury and misdiagnosed what I now know to be two Grade 4b stress fractures to metatarsals (which presents entirely differently to tendonitis). As a result, the injury is likely far more significant than if I had been diagnosed correctly in the first instance and I have been walking around (in pain) on two stress fractures.

Review titled Rude triage nurse
Rated 1 star out of 5
by Anonymous - Posted on 27 June 2023
I went in today for severe back pain, the lady behind reception was lovely, clearly very busy but very professional. The triage nurse on the other hand was condescending and rude. She questioned me as to why I was there to which I responded 'I have back pain, I'm in a lot of discomfort'. She then asked me, "have you been to your GP?" I said 'no I haven't yet, my practice usually has a long wait so I came here'. She said then mocked the way I had responded and retorted with an accusing tone, "why?" I explained my GP usually has a 3 week wait time to which she then seemed annoyed by and then begrudgingly took my details before informing me it will be a very long wait. I asked her then if they would phone me when my appointment was so I could do some work in the car (which they have done by the way for absolutely everyone, including myself, on past visits with no qualms). She laughed in my face to which I then said 'have a nice day' and walked out. I know it probably may seem like nothing to many but the way she spoke to me made me feel like I had no right to be there, it made me feel small and insignificant and that I was wasting hers and theirs time. I thus left, informing the receptionist I will be seeking help elsewhere. I am currently in a lot of pain, my lower back gave out whilst working on a roof and the pain was so bad I would never wish it upon anyone. I couldn't stand up straight for over 5 minutes and then couldn't get down from the roof for another 20. I have a very strenuous job and also, as a result of the nature of my work, it is very important I am not sidelined for too long. The pain is affecting my sleep and my quality of life. I understand the importance of being proactive with these injuries as I understand the risks associated with my job and my lifestyle (I play a lot of sports). I came to this center for urgent care, all I got was laughed at. The NHS say "help us help you" and I am a big believer in letting people know the level on service people received in order to help things improve. This triage nurse should politely be reminded to remain professional at all times and to not mock and laugh at patients in order to make this service better. This service is usually quite slow but understandable but few times visited Drs and nurses seem dismissive. My partner has just been diagnosed with a lymphoproliferative disorder and was wrongly diagnosed initially, not from here but she did also visit here for the raise and they acted on information given that is was a bacterial infection and acted accordingly but she too also had a negative experience. They prescribed her with antibiotics and rushed her out. Please help make everyones lives a little better by improving this service, it is very important for a lot of people and everyone deserves respect. Review titled Brilliant staff
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Rachel Dodgson - Posted on 23 May 2023
Amazing experience today at Beckenham Beacon. We arrived at 1.30 and were home by 3.30pm and had seen 4 members of staff who were all incredibly friendly and caring. My son was nervous but he felt so comfortable with the staff he soon felt much better. Thank you so much

Review titled Long,long waiting time
Rated 3 stars out of 5
by Anonymous - Posted on 11 April 2023
I visited Beckenham Beacon yesterday to try and get some relief from an ongoing respiratory problem. I checked in at 10.20 and was eventually seen at 14.10. Thats a 4 hour waiting time! The waiting room was only half full when I arrived and I was advised by the reception staff of approximately a two hour wait. I don’t know why I had to wait so long. I was eventually seen by a very friendly Doctor who has hopefully sorted me out. This facility requires more staff and probably more funding ,you cannot fault the staff, this little unit probably reflects the general state of the NHS in todays Britain. Its a handy facility that needs to be supported as it provides a proper and important service to the community. This is my second visit in as many months although I didn’t wait quite so long on my first visit. At least its there!

Thank you for your feedback and please accept our sincere apologies for the long wait at Beckenham Beacon UTC. Though the waiting room may seem empty some patients wait in their cars and this may seem like we are not busy. Shortage of staff is something we are experiencing at the moment, however we are doing our best to make sure that everyone is seen as quick as possible. Review titled Poor
Rated 1 star out of 5

I arrived at Beckenham Beacon Urgent care at 7.21pm on Tuesday 18th April. I had experienced severe jaw pain and sudden swelling in my neck that wasn't linked to anything that I could think of. There were no other patients waiting. A nurse came out of her office and told me that I would need to go to the nearest Accident and Emergency as there was no one available to see me there. I asked why as it is publicised that the service is available until 8pm. She said that the doctor was writing up patient notes from previous patients and wouldn't be seeing anyone else. It would make sense to make public that services are not available at 7.23pm due to administration tasks being performed and save people like me wasting time travelling there. It seemed to me that the staff, including the nurse who took my BP and temperature on my insistence, were more interested in getting the place ready for the next day than any of my medical needs. I asked the nurse to look at the swelling in my neck and she said "I am not qualified to do that". I returned to the building to collect my glasses that I had forgotten and the receptionist was in a back office emptying bins. I appreciate that the NHS is under pressure, but from my experience yesterday, it certainly didn't look like this.

Review titled Long waiting time abrupt staff
Rated 1 star out of 5
by Anonymous - Posted on 24 April 2023
Went for the first time after being advised by 111. Arrived to a one hour wait time which turned into three hours 10 mins. Spoke to the receptionists several times and was told emergency had come in appointment being kept. Under 16s etc two people left whilst I was waiting as they didn’t want to sit in the waiting room in pain/unwell any longer. Spent maybe 5 mins with a Dr who wrote the name of the meds I should buy on a piece of paper towel. I realise the NHS is stretched but friendliness and consideration would go a long way. Won’t go back here again.

Review titled Abrupt Triage Nurse
Rated 1 star out of 5
by Anonymous - Posted on 29 April 2023
I visited the Walk In Centre due to a loss of hearing. I had tried drops recommend by the Chemist and could only get a phone appointment at my GP’s. The triage nurse was really abrupt informing me that patient’s need to go to their doctors and this is causing issues with their wait times, they tooth my ear temperature, they didn’t ask me if my symptoms, how long I’d had the issue and if l was taking any medication, they dismissed me and told me to go wait in the queue. I understand the pressure on the NHS but they need to remain professional and treat every patient with respect.

Sent here by my GP as a matter of urgency, Lady on reception was Superb and helpful. I was really vulnerable and unfortunately Dr. was very rude ,and unhelpful causing me unnecessary stress. Had to seek assistance in another facility . Have used this unit once before and service was brilliant but not yesterday.

Review titled Traumatic experience for my 3 year old
Rated 1 star out of 5
by Sarah - Posted on 26 April 2023
I had waited nearly 3 hours for my nearly 4 year old son to be seen for a wound to his head. The nurse that we were called into was so unpleasant. She didn't talk to my son once. She asked me what happened then proceeded to rub his head wound with a dry antiseptic wipe vigorously with no warning in an attempt to clean away the dried blood. My son was screaming. I was so shocked at what she was doing - she then suddenly stopped and went off to get a bit of water and then wet the area with some of that and carried on rubbing hard whilst he screamed. She still had barely said a word to either of us. My son screamed and screamed. It did not have to be done that way. We were both so upset. She then told us it was fine and we could go. I then found myself outside the cubicle with my son still screaming and spluttering in disbelief at what had just happened. I've been really affected by this and am worried how my son will react in future if we have to tell him he needs to see a Doctor or nurse. It was very traumatic and could have been done so differently. There was zero care given.

Review titled No baby facilities

Recently visited with my baby. Absolutely no baby changing facilities. Ended up having to change my son on the floor of the disabled toilets. Simply not good enough.
