  1. Review titled Non-service

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 10 August 2024

I spent over five hours in queue for a triage nurse, only to be disconnected. Cannot reach hospital, no one answers the phone. I don't mind being patient, but if a phone triage service is not in use, they should turn the phone off rather than have people wait for "help" that will never come. Contacted 111, they referred me to eye hospital triage number. Eye hospital is unreachable. Called back 111, they said I just "have to be patient". This is very, very poor care- its not even care, it's the complete abdication of care. I have a screen shot to prove that I was on hold that long.

  2. Review titled A broken service

Rated 2 stars out of 5

by Jeanette - Posted on 11 August 2024

Waiting time from triage to actually seeing a doctor was over four hours. Nursing staff helpful. Admin staff at reception desk not so helpful. Quite hostile to incoming patients at times probably due to volume of people arriving. There appeared to be a distinct lack of doctors and those who were there seemed to take much too long in between seeing patients. The fact that before each patient they have to walk to the reception office to collect the next patients notes seems unbelievable in this digital age. I actually did not see one senior doctor in all the time I sat waiting. Although there did seem to be a lot of walking about in the department and not doing a lot else. The system ?? seems completely broken

  4. Review titled Poor service

Rated 1 star out of 5

9hours+ waiting time as I experienced today is utterly unacceptable and goes beyond what patients would expect as being reasonable. I shall see if I can find somewhere else. I expect this review to be ignored. Peter Clark

  5. Review titled Actually took the time to look into the issue

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Beth - Posted on 07 May 2024

I visited on a bank holiday so was expecting to wait after a past experience at another hospital that was horrendous. In total I was there about 2.5 hours which may sound long but I was with one consultant for about an hour as she was actually trying to figure out what was causing the issue. The last hospital didn’t bother and the issue has come back within a couple of months. The fact that time was taken to look into the issue and second opinions were given while I was there was great. I do have to go back again to have the progress checked but I don’t actually mind because they are actually helping me and not just treating the issue but figuring out the cause as well.

  6. Review titled Fantastic

Rated 5 stars out of 5

I attended the emergency department. Was seen quickly. All staff efficient and kind. Follow up appointment 2 weeks later took approximately 1 hour. I couldn’t fault the staff or the treatment I received. Thank you

  7. Review titled Fantastic compassionate treatment

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Jayne Allen - Posted on 14 June 2024

I attended the Eye A&E initially in May 2024 after developing double vision which came on suddenly and attending the opticians who advised me to go there. I was very concerned because I did not know what was wrong as well as being worried about being unable to drive or work. From the moment I went into the department, I was treated with compassion, everything explained throughout the assessment as well as what may be the cause answering questions throughout. I was tearful but reassured by the staff I came into contact with. I had to go for an MRI scan the week after and again the staff were lovely. I have returned today for a follow up and again the treatment I received was second to none. Thank you all for your kindness and compassion. You helped me more than you could possibly know to deal with this problem and you are an amazing team of people. Keep doing what you are doing because you are very much appreciated.

  8. Review titled 8 hour wait

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 28 April 2024

My wife had an eye infection - optician gave urgent referral to eye hospital. We arrived at 3pm. We waited patiently with our 1 year old child. By around 6pm, we were still waiting to be seen. Some members of staff said it wouldn't take long but others said we were way down the list. My wife got to see the doctor at 11pm after an 8 hour wait which was very difficult given the stress of her situation and also the baby kept crying. The communication in terms of updates was poor. I was told this is an A&E department so there was no way to tell how long it would take. They didn't give us any indication so what I expected would be a few hour wait was in fact 8 hour wait. I explained to the doctor who said he is overworked, not slept for two nights and doing 40 hours. During the appointment, doctor had to leave for an emergency and that took 30 mins. We left the hospital at 11:30pm pharmacies were closed so could not get the prescribed eye drops till the next day. I felt traumatised by the long wait - it caused us a lot of stress even in the days following it. If this is the state of the NHS, it is deeply concerning.

  9. Review titled No Answer

Rated 1 star out of 5

I have been referred three weeks ago for a macular hole from my hospital, since then, I have had nothing but trouble trying to even get hold of anyone to find out what is going on. Whenever you try to get through to the referrals it just rings out, nobody answers the phone! You phone the general number, they put you through to referrals. Cannot get anything from this place at all.
