  1. Review titled Listening Skills

Rated 3 stars out of 5

I have been under the Diabetic Clinic on and off for several years, appointments and continuity in care is hit and miss. It all seems to be telephone appointments now, and many people prefer face-to-face appointments, especially if they are neurodivergent, like myself. I recently made contact to express my concerns about insulin and weight gain, I am a Type 2 Diabetic, this is not the first time I have raised this issue, but more recently it’s been more distressing as I have an Eating Disorder, and I am unable to get any help on the NHS, either through my GP, this clinic, or local mental health services. The result from talking to a nurse on duty was to re-start me on insulin, and I felt everything I had said was just not taken on board. Today, I find seven pamphlets in the post relating to Diabetes, diet, using insulin etc. I did not ask for these to be sent, and had I been asked I would have said I did not want them. I’ve had Diabetes for 19 years, if I don’t understand the condition now, I never will. I probably know more than a newly qualified nurse on diabetes, in terms of control, diet, exercise etc. I found these pamphlets to be triggering for my mental health and also patronising.

  3. Review titled Appointment systems needs investigation

Rated 1 star out of 5

It has been really difficult to book a diabetic appointment so far, I give understanding that with covid , there will probably be a back log of patients and they are probably understaffed but the appointment system in place should be better. My dad was supposed to have a telephone appointment and after 30mins no call, I gave reception a ring first to confirm it is telephone and 2nd that it is normal for this to be happening which reception told me the consultant was only running late. After an hour , I called again then found out it was supposed to be face to face. I have already confirmed with booking team for clarification since the initial letter did say it was face to face but new digital letters and messages sent have been updated to say that it is telephone (have multiple screenshot and messages sent). I have received a confirm message yesterday as well which I confirmed for the telephone consultation to attend as usual and the number that will be called is the correct one. I'm left to leave this review since we have already been messed around so much before, it's either lack of communication and there would be telephone appointments arranged with no notice last year which left with no appointment being conducted because an interpretator was required and my dad have not been seen by the diabetic centre since the time a telephone appointment was arranged without notice till now which is like 1-2 years atleast. Please, if you value your resources, especially consultant and patient's time, investigate into faulty systems especially those sent on the nhs portal. This misleading scenarios probably happens to many other patients as well so please , I don't want to whinge but this is the least the center and management should look into to use resources rightfully or else missed appointments will pile up because of a faulty notifying patient system which is the only thing that can improve if staffing, and patient numbers can't be controlled any other way. Thank you

  4. Review titled Extremely Dissapointed

Rated 1 star out of 5

We have had the worst experience with Bolton Diabetes Centre. My husband has recently been diagnosed with Diabetes and has been put on a insulin 4 times a day. We are supposed to give 'Duty Nurse' Blood Sugar Readings every 2 days so insulin units can be adjusted. As we didn't hear anything back from them, we've tried contacting them however, each time receptionist advices duty nurse will call you back and it has now been 1 and half week!

  5. Review titled Shocking practice

My mother is disabled with very little mobility at all. I have requested home visits as we work full time and she has to visit every week to treat foot ulcers. They have refused saying they have no staff. I have told them I need to get social services involved as it takes 3 hours to get her out and into Bolton, they said we will leave it with you, The receptionist is rude too - disgraceful support for a severely disabled woman
