  1. Review titled Did the trick!

Rated 4 stars out of 5

Most of the staff here are very understanding and caring. Others treated me in a patronising manner which, as a professional, I did not like, nor was I used to. The medication, most importantly, safely withdrew me from benzodiazepines, which, due to chronic pain, I had developed a dependency to. The therapy staff work extremely hard to try to help with addiction but the attitude of a small minority of staff, mainly the support staff, really impacted my stay negatively. One lady, in particular, spoke to patients like they were children, which I found very dehumanising. I was in a tremendous amount of pain at 3am one night and was denied my pain medication which I was well under in terms of dosage in a 24-hour period and am prescribed for a very painful, chronic condition. This caused me unnecessary distress and a night of heightened pain when I was trying to recover. Having said that, for every negative encounter with staff I suffered, I also experienced much kindness from other nurses or members of staff. It’s important for me to say I am not an awkward or confrontational person at all. In fact, I’m quite the opposite; a little too polite at times, so I did not instigate these difficult incidents. They did entirely, and that is a shame. Some staff here need an intervention teaching them how to treat patients with respect and dignity.

  3. Review titled Caring, non judgemental

Rated 5 stars out of 5

All of the staff I had contact with were very professional, sympathetic and caring. The general atmosphere of the unit was one of optimism and positivity. I was transferred to Chapman Barker from my local hospital and was to be given a 7 day detox for alcohol withdrawal - some patients stay a little longer if their admission is planned via engagement with local alcohol services. From the moment I arrived I was put at ease, given a quick explanation of what to expect during my stay and was shown to my single room, before being administered medication to combat withdrawal symptoms. I was very weak and unwell for the first couple of days at the unit but received good support and encouragement from staff and fellow patients alike. After this I was able to take part in the group dicussions and activities which were also very helpful. By the time i was discharged my health and outlook was much improved. Thankyou Chapman Barker for starting me down the path of sobriety and, although I'm only about 6 weeks dry at this point I hope to be in a position to notify you of a much longer span of abstinence in future.
