Review titled Fantastic Service and Follow Up Action
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by John Owen - Posted on 11 February 2025
My wife and I were visiting friends in Exeter on Friday when I developed very quickly excruciating pain in my lower regions. I initially called 111 and received no useful advice, and none of the local surgeries could see me. My host, wife and myself found the Walk In Centre, and, despite a fairly full waiting room, only had to wait thirty minutes before being seen. The nurse and her assistant were efficient, caring and friendly and were thoroughly professional in everything they did and said and, as it turned out, quickly and correctly diagnosed me and issued the correct medication. Most impressive of all, they sent a report to my Surgery in Lincoln, which on my return enabled my doctor to continue the treatment without the need for me to explain everything again. At a time when the NHS comes in for a great deal of criticism, I would like to put on record my thanks to those concerned for their professionalism and dedication.

Review titled Walk in get carried out

My daughter was advised to attend the walk in centre to be seen within the hour having been sick for 2 days and was told she would be given anti sickness tablets before she could take paracetamol- 3 hours later and feeling much worse she was left with no option but to take herself home at 12 am. Appalling

Review titled Terrible experience
Rated 1 star out of 5
by Freya - Posted on 12 October 2024
Usually this practice is really good but my experience today was nothing short of awful. I was told by 111 to go to A&E last night for a bad cut wound that had blood spurt out of it, was bleeding for one hour continuously even after applying pressure on it for 20 minutes, and the triage nurse at the emergency room was concerned when I had my initial assessment. However waiting times were too long so I was told to go to the walk in centre today. The wound was of concern to 111 and also the hospital, but I was told I could go to the walk in centre to have it looked at since the waiting times were too long at the hospital. I told the nurse today at the walk in centre that blood spurted out of the wound, it was bleeding for one hour even with pressure, and that it was also bleeding under the skin and there was a lot of numbness present. All she did was dress the wound and tell me to come back if it gets infected. I understand she was just doing her job but I was seen so quickly, only been there for two minutes, and I also said the cut was a quarter of an inch long and deep, and about how much it was bleeding. Everywhere online says that cut wounds that bleed for more than 10-15 minutes with pressure, spurt blood, have numbness present and bleeding under the skin need medical attention, possibly stitches too, and I also told my nurse today that I had faintness and dizziness from the loss of blood. I was also cutting vegetables when this happened, and these are things that can also require a tetanus shot, and all she told me is that it “didn’t look like a tetanus wound”. All I received in terms of care was a dressing, when I know for a fact that cut wounds that spurt blood, bleed for an hour, cause faintness and dizziness, and are numb, require medical attention, stitches, and my concerns were completely dismissed. I have had a very bad experience and I know for a fact that I should have received better care.

Review titled Uncaring
by Helen - Posted on 03 May 2024
Today an elderly lady fell in Sidwell Street a few meters from the Walk In Centre, fortunately 2 kind men tried to help the lady up but she appeared delirious. Myself and my colleague went to try and help and thought the best option would be to try and seek medical help from the NHS walk in centre. I went to go and ask for a wheelchair but the staff were reluctant to let me have it stating it could be not taken outside I had to literally plead with them and eventually they agreed. When we arrived at the centre the staff were peering out of the window seeming more concerned that we were not going to return the wheelchair. It did not feel very reassuring that we had left the lady in caring hands and we all came away feeling the same. Very poor service from NHS

Review titled Visitor experience

Drove to Exeter Sidwell St walk in centre after not being able to book a timely appointment or access the system in GP surgery in Torbay for and with my wife. Booked in within a minute, waited less than 2 minutes to be seen and then less than 5 minutes to have meaningful conversation with staff member who she described as very helpful and understanding. Onward referral made to relevant department and link for correspondence also sent. Fantastic experience at initial stage which is as it should be and was concise, compassionate and caring. If all or even 90 % of interactions with NHS were this efficient we would all be a lot happier and healthier. A massive thank you to all involved today, has made such a difference to my wife !

I dropped in with an urgent problem that I couldn't see my GP about for a couple of weeks. From the receptionist to the nurse practitioner that attended to me I could not have been more impressed. They were professional and friendly and dealt with my concerns quickly, I also felt that they had time to listen and explain.

The medical staff were very helpful and knowledgeable. They were able to access my medical history and explained fully their recommendations, contacting my GP surgery to arrange further treatment.

Review titled Cannot praise too highly

by Andy Thorne - Posted on 03 September 2023
I had several problems that had been worrying me with a possible infection that left me with red eyes, sore throat and swollen glands. My regular practice had told me to go to a pharmacy and get advice, which I did, but a fortnight later there was no improvement. I know I must not name the nurse practitioner I saw, but I should like to thank them very much indeed. I was given a thorough examination, some anti biotic and some fantastic advice too. I waited a while, but the treatment I received was exemplary and put my mind at rest too. What a great facility, and thank you
