  1. Review titled Exceptionally caring and sensitive .

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Kath McKay - Posted on 05 September 2024

Care provided by district nurses & palliative care nurse in the last 2 weeks of my husband's life was exceptional and allowed us to care for him at home , to die peacefully without pain amongst his family. Nurses were always caring, respectful and sensitive to all the family and were available at any time and responded promptly to my requests for help and support. Will be forever grateful to all those involved. Thank you .

Thank you for taking the time to leave your feedback regarding your recent experience with the District Nursing Services. We are sorry for your loss, however it is reassuring that the District Nursing team were able to assist with his care at home in a sensitive and respectful manner and were readily available to assist at any time you required. We will forwarded your comments to the directorate concerned, who will share with the staff involved.

  2. Review titled Lack of support during terminal illness

Rated 1 star out of 5

The nurses we encountered as a family gave conflicting advice and just seemed intent on handing off responsibility to another shift or another nhs service and at one point asked if anyone I’m the family could administer an enema to a terminally Ill family member. The final straw was when we rang for advice when our family member was unable to swallow to hear them laughing in the background and telling us to call 111. I hope no other family has to go through the pain of loosing a family member and also experience such an uncaring, unsupportive service as we have caring for our terminally Ill mum with no experience, being over whelmed and a service who should be there to support making the experience much worse. I will say the gps and 111 have been fantastic unlike the district nurses.

Had the district nurse coming out since 15th july 2023 to change dressings on a leg injury. There is not a single thing i could fault them on. Very pleasant, polite and helpful. I feel very privileged to get the treatment that i receive from an excellent team. Top marks all the way from me
