After my mam died in April 2023 and I had a breakdown. I begged for help and could not get the right help from the GP, after 2 visits to the hospital and after 4 months a GP told me to contact talking matters. I did this and it the my dad died in February 2024. In May 2024 I had my first therapy session at Talking Matters. I have found it very helpful and the therapist is an angel. How anyone can sit and listen to peoples problems all day requires an amazing person. If only the government would invest more in things like this instead of War the world would be a better place.

Review titled Horrendous Waiting Times ..
by Amanda - Posted on 11 April 2024
I have been waiting for so long . Not far shy of 1 year. Only one Person works throughout the whole of Northumberland with TMN that is Qualified for the talking therapy I have been diagnosed too need. Yes 1 . I was referred to TMN by another service, they can’t deny they had the opportunity to request I attend elsewhere due to there lack of therapists & waiting lists for my needs, the treatment I require is complex , so how they could just leave me hanging around waiting is Cruel & has Inflict more feeling of distress , I feel very let down . This is a service that offers no transparency with time lines & just happy to keep you on a never ending list , whilst you struggle alone to make sense of what’s happening! I am disappointed & disgusted that they had the opportunity to refer me back,in the hope I could receive faster urgent treatment ! However there lack of care towards me has allowed nothing but further stress & I exhibit more unhealthy behaviours now than I did at my mental health assessment which unfortunately led me to TMN . I have asked how many people where ahead of me but that information is not forth coming . All I know is this …Do Not Use TMN or allow yourself to be referred there! Please seek other alternatives as they really have no Duty of Care & an awful admin team with poor listening skills & abrupt replies when they get round to answering the call.

Amanda, thank you for taking the time to share your experiences though we are sorry to hear that you have been left feeling let down. We are conscious that waiting times for some therapies are higher than we want them to be and the team are making every effort to bring these down, as we recognise the impact this has on our clients. We offer a range of talking therapies and this includes more specialised therapies. In this case, we have more than one therapist offering these and have staffed clinics across the whole of the county. We also offer both video and office-based appointments so that we can accommodate individual requests. I am sorry that you were unhappy following your contact with our Administrators. Our Admin team work exceptionally hard to respond to all queries the service receives and direct callers to the most appropriate person. I know they take every individual call seriously and do their utmost to respond with compassion. I appreciate that I can only respond more generally on this page to the concerns you have raised about your care, and I would invite you to contact the service directly so that you can speak with a member of our management team more specifically about your experiences. You can do this by emailing tmn.info@nhs.net or by calling us on 0300 3030700. Louise Stubbs, Service Manager.

Review titled Life Changing.
by Lauren - Posted on 25 April 2024
After years of trying to battle through my mental health and trying and failing to connect with therapists, coming back to talking matters has changed my life. I was severely unwell with fairly complex issues that were affecting every aspect of my life. Yes the waiting list is long, but better to wait and try than to live hopelessly. This time around, everything has fallen into place. The level of help I have recieved is second to none. I feel like I have been given another shot at life, I feel like life is just so much brighter than it ever was before. My relationships and friendships have improved so much, and I am able to feel real joy for the first time in forever. I cannot recommend the service highly enough. My therapist has given me the strength and knowledge to know that I can handle whatever life may throw at me now, and finally I dare to dream. Thankyou so much for this stellar, free service.

Review titled Useful

I was on the SilverCloud online programme. Although I felt some modules were not relevant to my situation, I understand that the programme covers a wide range of problems. Overall the programme was useful and I welcomed the input from my supporter. Completing the programme gives access to the various tools for a further year and I will continue to use it.

Review titled Extremely helpful, very beneficial.
Rated 5 stars out of 5

I was diagnosed with medium to low anxiety earlier this year as a result of my personal circumstances. I found each session extremely helpful, the therapist was understanding of my situation and able to offer really good advice. It was helpful to be able to talk over my worries and anxieties with someone other than family or friends. I looked forward to each session and actually enjoyed them. I was particularly impressed when my therapist was able to implement advice and strategies depending upon how I was feeling at any time, even if it meant altering her plans at short notice. The strategies suggested have helped me immensely and I am able to use them and feel the benefit daily.
