Review titled good practice but a boring building
Rated 3 stars out of 5
by katelyn - Posted on 26 January 2024
the building is so boring and grey and definitely needs some more colour. i recieved great treatment with a very lovely person but i felt the whole experience was a bit rubbish as there’s no colour or fun on the walls and floors. the building is in a great location and is full of great people but is just a bit of a sad building in general, colour would really be a big improvement. i would probably look forward to going if there were fun carpets and nice pictures that were made by young people instead of just octopuses (it feels like an ocean with all of the blue and sea creatures). it would make the place a lot more inviting instead of a long grey corridor that makes me excited to leave.

Thank you for the feedback and we would agree there is a need to take a further look at what we could do to make the building at Orca more exciting. We have only been here for a relatively short period of time and we have already made some changes based on feedback received from young people including the addition of a TV screen for messaging, a team photo board, a radio in reception and a co-creation display in the main waiting area. Our Co-Creation Lead is currently working with a local artist to look at designing a mural and other artwork for the walls to bring more colour into the building and we already have a visit planned with young people to agree how we can make the building more sensory friendly. We have a young people’s co-creation group in York who we are working with to look at what else they would like to see in the building and we are always keen to get new members to join the group so they can share their ideas. If you would like to become involved please contact Abi Collins, Co-Creation Lead at abi.collins@nhs.net
