Review titled Inefficient
Rated 3 stars out of 5

Diabetes Eye test. Arrive. Details taken. Eye drops added. Wait 20 minutes. Photos taken. Go. Total time with practice nurse 5 minutes. Length of my time for appointment 30 minutes. Throughout could be doubled by phasing appointments to 15 minutes. Arrive. Details taken, eye drops added. Go and wait. Next patient 15 minutes after first. Details taken, eye drops added. Go and wait. Call first patient. Do photos. Call third patient. Do eye drops. Call second patient. Do photos. Maybe it needs tweaking. For sure the current system is very inefficient as it involves the nurse and the patient doing nothing for 20 minutes. If it helps visualise this unrealistic approach to critical path analysis, think of a pub serving Guinness. A drink that if served properly, needs some minutes to settle after the first half is poured. Can you imagine a pub where the bar person then stood there waiting for the ‘settle’ without doing anything else? At the very least another half of Guinness could be poured in anticipation of another order. In a pub, this might be a gamble. In the Centre, you know absolutely when the next appointment is booked. I talked as kindly as I could to the nurse about this and the reply was “we’ve always done it this way”. You will know the NHS management is getting kicked on a regular basis at the moment. This practice and the resultant comment may help to explain why. I would really like to know if you intend addressing this situation. Regards
