  1. Review titled Huge concern!

Rated 3 stars out of 5

by Ahmad Oyais - Posted on 22 June 2024

I am writing to express my concern regarding a recent experience I had at the 7 Kings Health Centre. Today on 22.06.2024, I attended the centre for a blood test. During the procedure, I noticed that the nurse did not use any disinfectant on my skin before taking the blood sample. When I inquired about this, I was told that it was no longer necessary. I am deeply concerned about this practice and its potential implications. Disinfection of the skin before invasive procedures such as venipuncture is a critical step in preventing infections, including abscesses at the injection site. Omitting this step can significantly increase the risk of introducing bacteria into the bloodstream or the tissue surrounding the puncture site, leading to complications such as: 1. Abscess Formation: Bacteria introduced during the procedure can cause localized infections, resulting in painful abscesses that may require further medical intervention, including drainage or antibiotic treatment. 2. Cellulitis: This bacterial skin infection can spread quickly and may lead to serious complications if not promptly treated. Symptoms include redness, swelling, and warmth around the puncture site. 3. Septicemia: Also known as blood poisoning, this severe infection occurs when bacteria enter the bloodstream, potentially leading to sepsis. Sepsis is a life-threatening condition that requires immediate medical attention. 4. Phlebitis: Inflammation of the veins, often caused by infection, can occur, leading to pain, swelling, and further complications, especially in individuals with compromised immune systems. These complications not only pose a risk to individual patients but also place a strain on healthcare resources and can lead to increased healthcare costs. It is essential that healthcare providers adhere to best practices to prevent such outcomes. While I understand that medical guidelines can evolve, I am unaware of any recent changes in UK healthcare protocols that advise against the use of disinfectants before taking blood samples. If there have been such changes, I would appreciate further information and the rationale behind them. However, if this is not the case, then the failure to disinfect before drawing blood is a significant oversight. I am requesting that the health centre review its procedures and ensure that all staff adhere to established infection control protocols. It is imperative that measures are taken to prevent unnecessary health risks to patients. This issue is not just a personal concern but one that affects the entire community served by the 7 Kings Health Centre. Proper disinfection practices are fundamental to patient safety and public health. I trust that you will treat this matter with the urgency it deserves and take appropriate action to rectify the situation. I would appreciate a response to this letter outlining the steps that will be taken to address my concerns. Thank you for your attention to this important matter.

I spent 40 minutes this morning listening to music and the fist 10 minutes in position 2 last 30 minutes I was told I was in position 1 and stayed there for the entire 30 minutes and then told ring back at 2 o’clock but I didn’t bother as it is nothing but hit and miss since we had Covid, I’ve been a patient there for 30 years and I cannot believe how bad it’s become
