Reception staff excellent. Took my 80yr old mum following an accident at local diy store. Delay as computer system had failed that morning . Waited in waiting room for 90mins before triage. On approaching doors was informed mum had to go in alone despite her asking them could I go in with her. Mum can be confused at times. I shoukd not have to explain this in front of a waiting room!!! I have attended this walk in with my daughter who is autistic and had not been allowed to go into triage with her despite explaining her condition and associated anxiety! I find this totally unacceptable...I understand that triage room is small however, in an era of inclusivity perhaps you should either have larger rooms or at least one larger room to accommodate people. Mum attended triage alone and came out upset. She felt dismissed by the staff...no history taken...including the fact she takes anticoagulants, a cursory examination and advised to rest with her leg elevated. When the nursing assistant took her blood pressure on the automated machine the cuff expanded too tightly making mum feel ill. She requested that it be removed as it was too tight. The nursing assistant removed the cuff as requested, mum offered her other arm for the recording only to be answered with 'no we can't use that arm'. When mum offered her original arm the nurse said 'no we can't do it'. This nurses attitude was appalling! As a health care professional myself I expect at least curtesy and respect should be shown to patients no matter what.
