    I had procedures for cataract removal. The first, on 22 October, went very smoothly, the surgery taking less than 10 minutes with very little discomfort either during or after the procedure. I was in the clinic for just under three hours. The second, on 12 November, was, in comparison, much slower, with lots of waiting around without explanation. The reason became clear when it came to the operation itself, which took more than twice as long as the first one, with some pain requiring further anaesthetic. I can only put this down to the surgeon, whose technique or competence level was not as good as that of the first one. Having said that, I was impressed with the support staff at both appointments. They were polite, caring, efficient and explained every part of the procedure that they were responsible for.

    Everyone very welcoming, explaining the procedure in detail. Comfortable and clean environment. The surgery itself was excellent and I was looked after very well. However, the whole experience took over four hours with unexplained, lengthy delays between departments. My other cataract surgery, performed elsewhere, took less than half as long.

    Referral and pre-op were surprisingly quick, within a week of each other! Kind, warm, friendly and welcoming staff in each area, tho final optometrist spoke a little too fast and needed to repeat thankfully then clarified medical jargon. First cataract surgery was amazing, offered within a week: so quick and efficient and pain free, with all staff easing any nerves, particularly the surgical team who used great humour to ensure the whole procedure was almost pleasant: light hearted banter and tasteful joking was much appreciated. Clearly this was a team working together beautifully, courteous yet familiar with one another. It was a training day so the whole process took a bit longer than anticipated but this was explained and well justified. Just 6 wks later procedure number two was booked tho illness meant I needed to postpone but 6 days later I was offered another opportunity for cataract surgery! Blessed!! Amazing! However, this was nothing like the first. The delay, after dilating drops were given, wasn’t explained and tension permeated the air. Surgery couldn’t have felt worse in my opinion although am certain it was performed professionally. I felt uneasy somehow, was uncomfortable to begin with which quickly progressed to discomfort - bedside manner, good humour were lacking; this and explanation may have helped matters …it felt a rushed and tense atmosphere/procedure, sadly, whereas the first surgery 25 Sept was marvellous so unlike 12 November, sadly…. Reassurance was provided immediately following the procedure as I wasn’t feeling/responding well and it was then surgical staff were kind, supportive and considerate. My journey home was grim, both eyes and nose ran continuously til evening accompanied by stinging, swelling, puffiness, bruising and soreness…sleep and time were great healers and I trust eye number two will be as fabulous as number one! In summary: Experience/procedure number one was top class, zero anxiety, zero discomfort, zero pain, zero recovery needed, unlike experience/procedure number two which, had it been the first, would have been the last or at least with a long delay between, whilst I gained courage! Clearly I was spoilt by the first cataract operation as it was brilliant thus high expectation for the second caught me totally off guard. All this said I am grateful to have had surgery, so quickly, on our wonderful NHS, offered convenient distance from home (good hospitality to boot!!) and what is more I’ve gained two great eyes that see so well that all grumbling is past and hope readers will appreciate each persons experience differs, as do the staff. Go on, be brave - I’m sooo glad I was, in the end :)

    From the moment I entered for my pre-treatment assessment to the moment I walked out after my surgery I found every aspect, reception, examinations, explanations, pre-surgery attentions through to the surgery itself, of the highest calibre. Everyone was kind and attentive and nothing more could be either done or explained to put me at ease to make me aware of every detail of my examinations and surgery. 100% satisfaction.

    Staff were helpful, efficient and friendly, explained all the procedures clearly, both operations were almost pain free, a minor stinging when the eye drops were applied, appointment times were punctual,

    The whole process of the cataract surgery was efficient ,organised and very professional. The team work was exceptional and the patient's concerns and well being were paramount. The advice and care was first class.

    On arrival reception team where very friendly and helpful, the next stage is seeing the nurse who was amazing she was very reassuring and had a very soft approach as I was very nervous and understanding answered all my questions and even checked in before surgery to be sure I was ok. The next stage is another nurse who talked me through some stuff and put my drops in she was also great she helped me feel comfortable and was very helpful. I then saw the professor who performed my surgery who again was amazing! He talked me through everything made sure I was at ease and talked me through everything that was going to happen. My surgery experience again was great the actual surgery was a strange feeling and I did have a little freak out but the staff where incredibly kind held my hand (sorry again if I squeezed to hard) I was in no pain but just a slight pressure and not the nicest feeling. But having said that the team where so helpful understanding and communication was spot on. Thank you all for helping fix my sight and helping through a difficult situation. Would 100 percent recommend.

    I had excellent treatment at SpaMedica, Colchester. All members of staff were extremely polite and helpful. The procedure was explained to me and was very straightforward. I cannot thank the Surgeon for restoring colour and much clearer vision. Thank you all for your respect and for putting me at ease

    From the first day i walked in into this clinic staff i’ve notice the friendliness of the staff and they are very welcoming. Hospital is very clean. Assisted me through and through and offered me a drink which you cannot find this in any other Service. The whole team are brilliant from the reception to the operating room. All i can say is i am very thankful and grateful for all your help to me. So thank you all and keep up the good work ypu are all amazingly doing your job well.
