Had cataract surgery and I can say the whole experience from assessment to day of surgery was fantastic. Very friendly caring informative staff that put you at ease.

Made to feel at ease, everything was explained fully, appointment time was kept, procedure was quick and painless. Only one slight drawback, no Internet signal at the moment.

The first thing to say is generally the staff are good as is the treatment. This was my second eye and just lie the other eye and pre assessment I also had to return twice for further tests as the original assessment failed to complete all the necessary information. It’s the waiting time and I know they tell you it could be 3 hours but if it was run for patients and not money it would be perfect. I was first at 8am patients arrived every 10 minutes I was taken through to pre op by the admissions nurse at 8.20 I am a chatty happy go lucky person after only a minute she snapped at me that she has 28 patients to do today so didn’t have time for small talk! I then remained courteous but quiet she then realised and started telling me about her weekend with her granddaughter? I was the put through to the stable area where she said I should be in for 30 minutes surgery should be done by 9am. Just shy of 10oclock with the stable area now full with 7 patients and their partners she came through and said the surgeon has just arrived and operations would start asap? I went into theatre just after 10 o’clock the operation took 7 minutes so why did we have to be there for 2 hours and of course the waitrooms were now packed . It’s simply a money making machine paid for by the NHS. When I left I thanked everyone but did comment I thought the wait too long , the receptionist replied try the NHS then see how long you’d wait?

The whole process was efficient. However they are not equipped to deal with patients who have high anxiety/phobia with regard to their eyes procedures. Staff were friendly procedure took place whereby the surgeon expressed his concern of my well being that I should go for general anesthesia next time due to my reaction. I explained all of my phobia which was dismissed at my pre assessment. No preparation or aware of my situation on arrival which just added to my stress, as I had to remind everyone several times I was given diazepam late which was not clear to me to have taken affect at the point of the procedure. As predicted my blood dropped which caused further concern as this was a reaction.

From the initial greeting by reception through to the actual operation and post op consultation I felt confident that the procedure would be dealt with professionally and with the patient's welfare in mind. Everyone was helpful and answered all questions to my satisfaction. This was my second cataract operation at Spa Medica, who were promoted by my optician, and I have no hesitation in recommending them.

The staff were very caring and helpful, the entire experience was very easy and I was made to feel very comfortable. During the procedure I was made to feel very much at ease and everything was explained to me in simple terms. I had very little discomfort after the procedure. I felt no apprehension although I do suffer badly with white coat syndrome.

I have made several visits, both for myself, including pre-op assessments and two cataract operations and similarly accompanying my wife for her two ops. On all occasions the service and friendliness of the staff from the surgeons right down to the lady who services the drinks machine was outstanding. I find it hard to believe that this is NHS when it has the quality of a private hospital. There was one minor hiccup during one of my wife's visits and this was dealt with rapidly and professionally to the extent that we received a personal phone call from one of the most senior managers explaining how the error occurred and how she was dealing with it. I note that one review on 12th January gave only two stars complaining about the length time he was kept there. The three-ish hours expected is explained at the outset and is partly due to the time taken for dilation eye drops to take full effect. In fact this can vary considerably as my last visit, also on 14th January, lasted little more than an hour. Any delay during a patient's operation will undoubtedly slow the procedures following. If I could flag one request, it would be for free Wi-fi to be available as most visitors (and staff too) use mobile phones to view the internet etc. and that would be a great enhancement to an already top rating service. On arrival one enters through a series of auto doors which seem to work on and off. The car park serves other businesses and was busy on my 5 visits! One cannot fault the staff friendliness and service. The big but is it’s run as a business and therefore it’s packed in high and never mind the wait? Every time it’s over 3 hours and yesterday it was 4 hours all for an operation that takes 15 to 20 minutes . I am a bit of a character and actually entertained the crowd a bit as a few had began to get frustrated and loud. You cannot justify the wait the pre op tests take a few minutes each and then you wait 45 minutes it’s not on its simply rubbish

I had my first cataract removed yesterday, following pre-assessment two days before. I was so impressed with each individual and how they took pride in their own tasks or tests, but gellimg as a team to give a better experience to the person. The surgeon on my day was, a lovely man with a very cheerful manner, who explained everything clearly to me.
