Review titled NHS issue not the centre itself
Rated 1 star out of 5
by Carole Clarkson - Posted on 22 January 2024
This is an NHS failing ..setting these centres up for when no GP appointments available but then not giving the staff powers to do simple things like blood test referrals so it’s back to the GP then ..whose receptionist suggested a walk in centre in the first place ..complete joke..complete waste of time and resource

Review titled Great Service
Rated 5 stars out of 5

I attended St George's on 27th December and was seen within an hour. The nurse practitioner I saw was lovely, she did a thorough examination and was sent straight into the xray room. I had several xrays done and was told I had fractured my arm which was then put in a half cast. They arranged further appointments for me at the LGI. Overall a very good experience at such a busy time of year.

Review titled Awful service
Rated 1 star out of 5

I am embarrassed to say i work for the NHS the service was absolutely horrendous for a urgent care service. We were waiting 3 hrs after been told to get there within the hour to be seen and then after 3 hours told a specific time which was a further hour and 15 mins. We only attended because we couldnt get a GP appointment all week and they advised St Georges or A & E as an alternative. My son just needed a GP appointment instead of wasting everyones time, which seems an impossibilty at the moment with the NHS

Review titled What a joke!
Rated 1 star out of 5
by Peter Oxley - Posted on 30 November 2023
My son had severe stomach pains and was advised by 111 to take him to the UTC at St George's. We arrived and my partner went inside to check they could see him and they confirmed they would so we brought him in from the car only to be told they were too busy. No other patients were waiting, and it seemed like an excuse towards the end of the shift. Disgusting service from an 'NHS' urgent treatment centre for an 11 year old boy who was visibly in a lot of pain.

Review titled Long unspecified wait
Rated 2 stars out of 5
by Simon - Posted on 17 November 2023
Staff were pleasant and helpful and when I eventually saw a clinician she was sympathetic and did all she could. My frustration was the lack of publicly visible queueing system or approximate wait time. You book in and are asked to sit it the waiting area. I was there for almost 4 hours with no screen or ticket system to show where I was in the queue or approx wait time. Large numbers of patients came in way after me and were seen way before me. This is frustrating when there is no explanation as to what is happening. I visited the centre hoping for an x-ray to check out a painful issues in my foot. When I got to see the clinician, I was sympathetically told that she couldn't refer me for x-ray as I hadn't been directed down centres Accident pathway! I didn't know there were different pathways when booking in and it wasn't clear that only the Accident pathway could result in an x-ray. Also, bring food and water with you for your vigil in the waiting area as all vending machines were out of order.

Review titled Rude, unwelcoming and unhelpful
Rated 1 star out of 5

Attended as a walk in, as per Leeds Teaching Hospital website you can still walk in, trying not to burden A&E and was told by reception rudely “can’t see you” really abruptly before I’d even explained why we needed help, really unhelpful and was left feeling so vulnerable. Took ourselves to A&E having no option, good job really as surgery was needed. Just not the compassionate service the NHS stands for.

Review titled Does not close at 11
Rated 1 star out of 5

Turned up before 745. Was told they were closed because they were full. This is not really a walk in centre that closes at 11 pm. Check by ringing before attending.

Review titled Overall excellent care received
Rated 4 stars out of 5

Contacted 111 online with suspected fracture and received a call back from a nurse within four hours who advised me to go to St George's walk in centre. I asked if we could have an appointment for an x-ray and was told no, just walk in. We arrived only to be told to expect an extremely long wait but the pleasant receptionist was not allowed to say roughly how long we might have to wait but she offered us the option of going back home to wait and they would ring us there with an appointment time. How ridiculous that 111 couldn't sort an appointment for us or provide a telephone number for us to ring and make an appointment ourselves? Not everyone has their own transport to be able to go back home! A lovely nurse rang us back in a few hours and offered us an appointment so we drove back to the centre. I didn't have to wait long before having the x-rays and being issued and fitted with a fracture boot. Only thing they didn't do was to explain to me how to manage stairs wearing the fracture boot and I had to Google it or risk having another fall. However, I was given details of how to access the Nhs virtual fracture clinic with physio exercises and plan for the next 4-6 weeks so don't need to see any further medical staff unless I have a problem. Lovely staff and good service which could be improved by providing approx waiting times to be seen and appointments for x-rays to be offered by 111. Also noticed that of the three vending machines in the waiting area two were out of order and the third was empty. Overall very good service!

Attended at 7.30 Saturday evening - was told that they were closing at 8. Asked if they could just look at my eye , was told we are closing at 8. After the receptionist asked the nurse again was told no they were closing at 8. Nobody in there and web site said open till 11. Trying to save going to A n E what a waste of time ,
