In 2016, I was diagnosed with Attention Deficit Disorder, at the age of 26. Finally, my academic short-comings made sense. Following this, I was referred to the Tuke Centre, York, to undergo evaluation and commence medical control of the disorder. I was referred back to my GP (Egton Surgery, North Yorkshire) for a blood test and to begin receiving medication. My GP at the time assured me that screening bloods weren't required, as, rightly so, I had no health complaints, and working as a Veterinary Surgeon, I have a good knowledge of pharmaceuticals and bodily functions. For 5 years I took Ritalin, as and when required, as discussed with the specialist at the Tuke Centre and had fantastic results. I was able to complete my degree and now work as an Equine Veterinary Surgeon and Teaching Associate for a Veterinary college. Upon moving house, I changed my GP, to Whitnash Medical Centre, Warwickshire. This occurred 2021. The GPs at the Centre now refuse to dispense my medication as previous. I am require to be under the supervision of a specialist. On insisting that I was under the Tuke Centre, they responded by saying they had discharged me in 2020, as I had not attended follow up consultations. Such consultations were never booked, nor was I made aware that this was required. I have now been placed on a waiting list to see specialists, based in Birmingham (I've never been told who this is). I have been advised that this may take up to 3 years. I feel as though I am back to square one, following an initial 18 month waiting period to see a specialist. In the meantime, my clinical symptoms of ADHD have made it impossible for me to carry out a position which requires me to be high functioning. Following several small mistakes at work, leaving myself open to patient negligence, I have developed severe anxiety and depression. Both of which exasperate my clinical signs. I am now in a position where I am unable to work. I feel this is entirely due to several errors which have been made by the NHS. If this continues, I am likely to lose my job and my home.
