  1. Review titled infection prevention issues for starters.

As a nurse I understand importance of infrction control , unfortunately what I witnessed in utc filled me with dread. Staff not washing or sanitising hands, gloves being worn all over the centre. it was very disconcerting. I would also like to mention the uniform policy was non existent with the male receptionist. He was not wearing uniform issued by the trust, he had knee high boots with buckles, he was wearing braces, again ipc issue. there was no cups for people to drink from and only 5 of the self help leaflets were filled. Not the best experience to be honest.

I had to see the out of hours Gp service at Worthing hospital after phoning nhs111 I had to wait a short time but was instantly apologised to for this. The clinician was very thorough in going through all my symptoms and examining me and checking everything. Several possible conditions were considered and explained in detail it was decided that one of my symptoms could be a red herring and decided on a diagnosis that made complete sense to me- sketches were drawn for me to understand this diagnosis. This person was friendly, efficient, knowledgeable and very thorough. Time was spent on finding the correct medication I cannot find any fault at all with the service I received- thank you

  3. Review titled Dismissive, Unhelpful, Patronising then threatening

Triaged in A&E by a nurse and directed to UTC. Had a number of symptoms but a major concern was excessive urination. My urine output was more than my fluid intake (I had meticulously done a 24hr fluid balance sheet). Waited 2-3 hours to be seen and provided a urine sample. The GP would not allow my relative to accompany me in the consultation room despite one of my symptoms being confusion. I struggled to articulate myself alone and tried to show her the fluid balance chart. She said she couldn’t possibly look over it. I said she didn’t have to, but just to realise my intake of fluid was less than what I was urinating out. She proceeded to tell me she wasn’t interested in these numbers (or numbers generally!), that I wasn’t having the symptoms that I was having, that I wasn’t her problem and I should be seeing my own GP (which I couldn’t, as I was visiting a relative and miles away from my home). She completely ignored and dismissed me. From what I can gather the only test done in UTC was a urine sample to test for infection, glucose, ketones and a hormone test for pregnancy. I queried these tests. Only the infection test seemed relevant as I’d recently been screened for diabetes & pregnancy was impossible. No blood tests were taken. No stethoscope was used to check my chest (as I was presenting with chest & arm pains too). There was nothing to check if there was an imbalance of body salts or to check for negative fluid. When I queried this the GP said the urine ketone test detected dehydration (which I think it can, but only in limited circumstances). She then called in a colleague whilst she briefly felt my stomach for pain of which there was some slight pain. Whilst she did this I asked if she could give me a copy of the discharge notes. She said she had not written the notes and I would have to wait hours for them in the waiting room. I said I could return and collect them later if that was the case. She said if I returned when she wasn’t on shift someone else wouldn’t be able to give them to me. I told her that I found her very unhelpful (to the point of obstructive) that she had not properly assessed me or engaged with what I said. I didn’t say these things as articulately as paraphrased above, as I felt very unwell, frustrated, confused and emotional. The GP told me to leave immediately and threatened to call security. I was packing my bag up at the time and told her there was no need to call security! I walked from UTC and collapsed outside in the corridor, unable to breath. Passing staff tried to return me in a wheelchair to UTC but I’d already been threatened with security. Whilst this was happening to me outside UTC the GP was screaming at my relative (who’s hitting on 80) in the waiting room in front of other patients. My relative was only asking the GP a polite question about how I was. Nevertheless she was also threatened with security and told to never return to hospital. My relative has cardiac issues and lives in Worthing!!!
