While visiting Scarborough I rang 111 on a Sunday afternoon, was triaged and promised a ring back from ‘the OOH doctor’ within 6 hours. 7 hours later, in the absence of a call I rang 111 again to confirm I was still on the ring back list. This was confirmed and I was advised to continue to wait. The next morning, after a very uncomfortable night, now 18 hours after initial presentation, I again rang 111 to be told my ring back had been unilaterally cancelled by the OOH Dr without informing me: they had my mobile number but no message of cancellation was received. How can your system allow you to unilaterally cancel a service promise upon which a patient, potentially much more vulnerable than I, has been led to rely? Deeply unimpressed and now in A and E some 20 hours later than necessary…
