  1. Review titled Previously a great practice.

Rated 1 star out of 5

Ever since I missed an appointment due to not being sent a reminder I’ve been treated terribly. Told I was kicked out. I bargained and finally I was given another appointment. When this appointment came, I was given no grace after leaving work early and driving almost an hour in traffic to get there, I was told it was impossible for me to still have an appointment and to rebook again. Never has this practice kicked me out for running a little late until now nor was I told before that such rule existed. Even after many appointments for years where I had to wait more than 10 minutes after the time of my appointment, never complained, this is the grace I’m given. Truly disappointed. I just wanted a checkup.

Dear Patient, Thank you for taking the time to share your detailed feedback about our Bridge Street practice. We sincerely appreciate your insights, as they are invaluable in helping us identify areas for improvement. We are sorry that your recent experience was unsatisfactory leading you to give us the negative review after previously being happy with the service. Unfortunately, we do have to follow strict NHS guidance for patients attending the practice. We do send text reminders, but we do ask that patients do not rely on these as attending the appointment remains the responsibility of the patient. Your appointment is specifically reserved for you and failure to attend your appointment results in wasted clinical resources. NHS England has the right to ask you to find another dental practice if you continue to miss appointments. This does not affect your ability to seek NHS care at another NHS practice. This is in line with the NHS choices websites that states ‘Your dentist can terminate your treatment if you miss your appointment without informing your dental practice. If a patient attends late (over half of their appointment time) this is also classed as a failed appointment, we do try to accommodate patients when they are running late if they contact us to let us know but unfortunately we can not always do this due to other patients needing to be seen. At our practice if more than two NHS dental appointments are missed or cancelled with less than 48 hours’ notice, within a two-year period, no further appointments will be offered. New patients who fail to attend ONE appointment within their first course of treatment will not be offered further appointments. After their first complete course of treatment the above policy applies. Any appeals about missed or cancelled appointment decisions should be made in writing to the practice complaints manager Sukhi Kaur on skallsoppdentalsurgery@gmail.com, so if you would like us to look into this matter more thoroughly, please don’t hesitate to contact the practice directly where we can look at your records and respond in full.

I have been at this practice for a number of years and have had three dentists. My current dentist is an absolute cut above. This is my first treatment with them and they are exceptional. Put at ease immediately by their calm but decisive manner. They suggested a treatment plan that I was originally resistant to, as I thought I knew what needed to be done prior to attending and this was a slight deviation. Having thought it through immediately after the first appointment, I expressed my change of heart at the second and the dentist was so accommodating and, without judgement, added a further two appointments to cover this. My treatment plan concluded today and this was the most difficult part. The dentist and support technician were calming and reassuring, with a touch of well read humour from both to ease my nerves, just as I had come to expect over the course of the treatment plan. The support technician in this appointment was particularly personable and very practically involved in calming techniques. Much appreciated. I would like to mention the support technicians have been different in some of my other appointments but I have found them all to be consistently professional, friendly, helpful and without judgement. Thank you all, I have appreciated each and every one of you for making this a pleasant, comfortable experience (not something everyone can say after a trip to the dentist!) The reception team also require a mention; completely calm and organised atmosphere. They are incredibly ordered and appear to be completely conducive to the calming nature of the practice. Thank you reception for your warm smiles and hassle free transactions delivery. My dentist, despite being unknown to me prior to this treatment plan, was an absolute expert in quickly building trust with their honest and reassuring language use from the outset and subsequent delivery of all aspects of treatment which just built on this. My dentist is careful about managing expectations and actually does under promise and over deliver which is just the perfect element to any business, in whatever field. My dentist was also incredibly respectful in her delivery of my treatment, which is something to be treasured in a dentist, for which I shall be eternally grateful at a time of truly difficult decisions being made about my teeth; the trust they had built from the outset was truly instrumental in this. I do totally appreciate I am in an incredibly privileged position in even being an NHS patient in the UK right now and having the ability to access advanced treatment to quite chronic issues without having to worry. I hope all of us in this position do appreciate it. Finally, a huge thank you to the owner for your business model which serves folk like me very well. I appreciate it more than I can ever express.
