Review titled Worst practice ever
Rated 1 star out of 5
by Chris Derrick - Posted on 20 September 2024
My wife and I have or I should say my wife "had" been nhs registered at this practice for over 14 years. Because we had a life threatening vet emergency with our dog, which took over 3 hours at the vets, and we didn't get home until after 7pm. It meant my wife missed her "not so much money making dental checkup appointment". I phoned as soon as they were open the next day to explain what had happened, that we arrived home too late to phone as they were then closed (in the panic to get to the vets we left our phones at home). They were very sympathetic, asking if our dog was ok etc; and rescheduled the appointment. Now it's 2 days before said appointment and they left a message to say they have cancelled that and also my wifes nhs registration because she missed the appointment. Oh, we were informed she also missed one 6 months ago which we genuinely forgot. I spent 2 hours today trying to phone them, yep, you guessed it, they never answered as always. Right I thought, I'll go in person. I explained to the receptionist the problem, and I was told with a smug grin on her face that it's their policy to deregister if you miss 2 appointments. I said what is more important, a life threatening condition with your dog or a non important dental checkup. That met with a smug grin again. I requested to speak to the practice manager, and was vaguely directed where to go. I went through the whole spiel again, only to get the same response. This review is directed to all of the nhs patients registered at this practice, but, if Houstons want read it, you are more than welcome. Your days at this practice are numbered. It is obvious from other reviewers and myself that this dental practice is hell bent on getting rid of nhs patients. I am still registered and have had an extraction appointment cancelled and rescheduled for 2 weeks time, a month after the original appointment, and my next "not so much money making" check up is not until next May. Looks like their gunning for me now. Oh, the practice manager told me that their "policy" is changing, that if anyone misses 1 appointment they will be deregistered. I assume that means if you don't notify them. Good luck to all nhs patients at this practice, you'll need it.

I called them to confirm my family’s appointment this afternoon to find out our dentist had left and the appointment was cancelled. They told me I should have received a letter, which I never. Waited over a year for this appointment and now they can’t even give me another one. Probably shafted because we’re NHS patients. No one else in the are area taking on NHS patients so they can treat us as they like. Absolutely disgusted

Review titled Unable to have emergency treatment
Rated 1 star out of 5
by RICH GIBSON - Posted on 22 January 2024
I’m an nhs patient at Houston's. I lost a large filling in September 2023. This left the tooth painful and susceptible to infection. No appointment available in this huge practice until November. Day prior to appointment, call from practice to cancel as ‘dentist out of the practice’. No alternative available. I was told to wait for annual check up 4th January 2024. Check up confirmed tooth had become decayed. Also need a crown on another tooth. This one had been filled by the same practice privately 3 months earlier at a cost of £300. Clearly incorrectly treated. Dentist even managed to put the anaesthetic need through my lip. Last week, the decayed tooth became infected, my face swelled up and left eye closed. Houstons phones rang out. They said on website a phone fault, but similar had happened in September. Staff issues? They gave an email contact: 4 emails unanswered. Called 111 on 15/01/2024 in desperation. Directed to A&E for antibiotics and pain relief. Still no phones answered at Houstons. 19/01/2024 called received to check I’d attend surgery today 22/01/2024. Today, call received: appointment cancelled ‘dentist out of the practice’. No alternative offered after I recounted the foregoing. I had also paid upfront for band three treatment, £306. Houstons appear to want to eliminate their nhs patients and their private treatment is expensive. I was treated like they were cancelling something casual rather than a medical emergency. A&E were disgusted that I should be referred to their stretched resource providing life saving medical intervention. My GP was no help in seeking meds for the infection. I would strongly recommend anyone thinking of seeking treatment at Houstons to bear in mind my experience over the past 5 months.

Review titled Shocking

Really gone downhill since Houston’s left. Appalling customer service, rude dentist. Never see same dentist as they leave before your next check up. That said hopefully the one I saw today will be gone within the year. Not surprised the other one left, she was pleasant. Receptionist advised she was leaving due to how poor it had become and how there was a total lack of organisation. Shocking and sad it has gone this way.

Review titled Appalling Practice

Such a shame...this practice was first class when owned by the Houston family. Since takeover it's become what I can only describe as appalling. Firstly with two days notice they cancelled my 11 yo daughters appointment who has been waiting over a year to see a dentist. She needs a checkup as her teeth and growth are at a critical stage. The practice cannot give a date having phoned them three times. They barely answer the phone and what they do they are less than helpful. Then with 3 working days notice they cancel my appointment saying I don't need one given I had treatment 6 months ago on the back of my last appointment. This appointment they booked for me. I need this appointment as I have a loose cap that needs attention. Logic would say if they are cancelling my appointment at least slot my daughter in place who's in greater need than me. Tried calling them...can't get through. If I ran my business like this I'd have no customers. NHS patients are made to feel second rate.

Review titled decided they are no longer doing NHS appointments
Rated 1 star out of 5

Got a phonecall on day of appointment from an NHS number stating that the dentist is no longer doing NHS appointments, they were hoping to resolve it and would be in contact when they can rearrange. We had waited over a year for this appointment in the first place and the dentist themselves couldn't even contact us about this.

The staff here need some level of customer service training, their processes are old fashioned and paper based and it is impossible to get a response by phone, avoid!

2 years ago I had root canal treatment here, but have had pain for last 10months. Eight monrhs ago an X-Ray was taken and showed an infection,. Ive been waiting 8 months now since that X-Ray for root canal treatment again, or extraction of that painful tooth they did 2 years ago.
