Review titled Incompetent dentist and repeated appointment cancellations
Rated 1 star out of 5
by Anonymous - Posted on 20 December 2024
There is only one 'dentist' on staff and when he decides he doesn't want to come in they cancel appointments on day sometimes with less than an hours notice and this has happened over 5 times to me alone. This practice needs to be reported.

Thank you for your comments. Unfortunately NHS dentists are extremely difficult to recruit at this time and our Principal Dentist is currently unwell with a long standing illness which can affect his reliability, hence the short notice cancellations for which we can only apologise. The use of the word incompetent has been used inappropriately in this instance as this would imply that you have been treated yet you state that your appointments were cancelled, albeit at short notice. I also note that this comment has been made anonymously so we are unable to respond directly.

Dear Sir, thank you for your comments. The dentist in question was indeed running late because of several emergencies that had been attended to during the afternoon. When you were informed of this you actually started shouting at the receptionist (this was noted by the other waiting patients) and behaved in an extremely aggressive manner towards the receptionist who was only polite to you. I apologise for the tardiness of the dentist in question.

Review titled Overcharged without agreement - dishonest dentist
Rated 1 star out of 5
by Louis - Posted on 04 January 2023
I have been charged £150 for a root canal, instead of £63 under NHS Band 2, I wasn't shown any dental plans whatsoever, nor did they ask my permission or have my consent to pay so much for a single tooth — when I called them back they said it's because they use expensive high end equipment, £8 per file and they used 8... I said I never agreed to it, I didn't sign anything either and they didn't warn me - this was supposed to be a NHS dental treatment for a root canal. They said their manager will handle the complaint and will get back to me, still haven't received an email or phone call about my refund request... Further they wanted me to come back and clean my teeth for an extra £45, they could have done this under Band 2 as part of treatment for the same tooth; while they also asked £350 for a crown for a further appointment. Under NHS band 3 I should have had the root canal done, teeth cleaned and bridge + crown, it would have cost £285 in total for everything, one treatment. Instead, they took the liberty to mislead and overcharge me; the total would have been about £550. I explained when I called about the issue that I have low income, I am self employed and I have to pay tax this month, and it's really bad taste to take advantage of unsuspecting customers at Christmas, and while everyone is having a financial crisis. I trusted them and I made a big naive mistake, I also want to add, as it came back to me; last time I saw them some time ago; they said to me: "I get peanuts on NHS, I have to be a 'Man'... New course for every tooth". Be warned people, if you go there, make sure you ask clearly what they are going to do and how much they are going to charge for it, ask for a dental plan, and be careful what you sign - in my case I did not sign or agree to anything, they just went ahead and added on top of the band 2 NHS treatment. I was presented with the bills after treatment and I had no choice but to pay in full. I will not be going back there, nor recommending this dental practice to anyone. Also, while they were drilling my tooth, they stopped 3 times to take personal family phone and video calls, very unprofessional. Yours truly, Louis
