Tried to book an appointment for my 74 year old dad who had a toothache all weekend. The receptionist said we would have to book a check up first as its been almost 3 years since the last one, only after then would they be able to look at treating him (not necessarily in the same appointment). I took this appointment for 11.20am the same day only to receive a call an hour later that the dentist will refuse to see him because its been so long but they could fit my dad in with another dentist at 3.10pm. My brother took a day off work specially to take my dad to this appointment and when they turned up they were told that the appointment had been postponed to the next day! The receptionist says they left a voicemail but I did not receive any missed calls or voicemail and no apology for the inconvenience to my old man or big bro. The urgent dental helpline advises to book with your registered dentist instead of out of hours service for emergencies, but when you receive bad service like this from your registered dentist then what is the point of going to them. It seems theyre more interested in making a fee out of an extra checkup than taking care of an old mans toothache.

As I am not currently registered with an NHS dentist I went to My Dentist under the My Options scheme. I was asked to pay £85.00 at the time of booking. My X-ray showed a bacterial infection and swelling . I was told the only option was a route canal treatment costing a £1000. I explained I could not afford this and would it be possible to prescribe antibiotics to relieve the infection I was blankly refused because the dentist said although I had swelling and pain the infection I had no temperature. I strongly feel that due to my pain the dentist was trying to push me to opt for the expensive treatment and not willing to offer me a cheaper option. I feel this practice is more focused on making money than patient welfare. I was in absolute agony and went to another dentist in a different practice who agreed and prescribed antibiotics, explaining that they should help, but would probably have a flare up again in the future and should consider finding and signing up with an NHS dentist.

Appointment was nearly on time. Friendly reception staff and the dentist although only young was very professional gave useful advice too

For someone who genuinely hates dental visits, I have to say the staff are friendly, reassuring and professional. New dentist extremely pleasant and competent
