Review titled Neurodivergent Awareness Training
Rated 3 stars out of 5

I have had a generally good experience at the dental unit at Whitechapel and have had some really great students working with me . However, my last experience left me shocked and upset. Comments made by a senior member of staff were completely unacceptable in my opinion . I tried to explain that my difficulty with cleaning and oral hygiene has a lot to do with my diagnosis of ADHD, where are struggle with executive functioning etc. I was meet with the comment ‘adhd. Everyone has it these days, it’s the popular thing to have’ . It felt this to be very belittling . This is such an uneducated response by someone of a high medical profession and completely dismissive of the realities of having ADHD which I have struggled with the majority of my life. It is not popular or trendy, I do not choose to have Adhd. It is a neurological disorder. Would you say this to someone who has a more visible disability? Quite frankly I’m appalled by this. I would suggest that training is needed in neurodivergence with some members of staff so that people understand the true impact this has on people’s lives. I also found this particularly rude response to something I felt quite vulnerable to share.
