I am rather disappointed that I have not received any communication from this practice informing me that my GP has now retired. According to information I was given all patients received a letter, well I did not!

Dear Patient We can only apologise that you we did not manage to reach you via our various methods of communication during the past few months, regarding the retirement of Dr Gallagher and Dr Idoo. I would like to take this opportunity to reassure you that we continue to practice as we have always done but now with the addition of five GP Partners from the Cheadle Medical Practice who bring with them a wealth of experience in patient care. This means that there is now a GP Partner on site every day as well as our salaried GPs, a team which we are currently expanding, to meet our patient needs. Please do keep an eye on our website and social media outlets for the most up to date information, as well as inside the practice. Best wishes Sharon Moore, Operations Manager

Review titled Not great
Rated 2 stars out of 5
by Helen ferns - Posted on 11 September 2024
Phoned for simply an appointment during my annual leave to have bunions removed so needed a GP to see them to refer. Told I had to do it online Got sent a link. Answered questions. Told I needed to phone to book in with physio. Felt this wasn’t appropriate. Tried phoning again but computer issues meant I couldn’t make appointment. Meanwhile time ticks by so then go back to work. Now I’m off on annual leave again so trying to book in. Told I have to do it online!! Not good enough. I was speaking to receptionist then had to put phone down to go online to book. Where’s the sense in that?! I know you won’t change this but wanted you to know there’s no personal touch with doctors anymore. You now have a ‘one size fits all’ system. Surely patient care should be at point of contact not just in the clinic room? Brinnington surgery are so much better and you can actually book appointments over the phone! I know because I was a practice nurse there. I don’t live in Brinnington but would change GP’s in a heartbeat if I did

Review titled very rude receptionist
Rated 1 star out of 5
by Claire Stephanie Harratt - Posted on 06 June 2024
My daughter filled in online as she has come home form work with sore throat, she was advised to attend a chemist, which she did. The they stated viral infection, within 2 seconds. the nest day my daughter filled in another online report, as her throat had white lump..clearly infected, which was ignored. this morning i have rang and been on hold(not an issue) but then the female that answered the phone i can only desc as being rude, she ended the call abruptly after i asked who would get the call back me or my daughter. she has then called my daughter and been equally rude, and curt towards her, then ended the call on her. i myself have been at Alvenley for nearly 50 years, i barely use the doctor and we just get on with things, and to be honest it is just aswell, this recpetionist has not an ounce of courtesy, she is nothing but rude and abrupt towards the patients, if i was in a position to attend the appointment my daughter has now managed to get via said female i would, and point out, that as tax payers we are entitled to see a doctor, the appointments are not paid for by her and that her manner is not only intimidating( not wonder my 18 yr old didn't want to ring) but wrong on every level. i hope that may be she had a bad half hour this morning, but i doubt it. fortunately for her i didn't get her name, but next time i or my family dare to be poorly don't worry i will make sure i get it. i am. i apologise for sounding a little off, but i too work for a public service and as such, you have to be nice, we are not regular or repeat callers and her attitude has left me a little annoyed. thank you

Dear Claire We are sorry that you felt our standards fell short today. I am the Operations Manager and I have managed to listen to your initial call this morning at 08.46, confirming that your daughter had attended a local chemist and was referred back to a GP. You request an appointment and our receptionist goes on to ask supplementary questions. The call closes with confirmation that she will ask the on call GP to look at the request today, confirming he will call your daughter back. I am sorry if you felt that this call was ended abruptly. The next call is at 09.44 when another member of team calls your daughter and asks if she can come in to see the GP at 3pm today, that call was brief but certainly not curt. We do record all of our calls for training purposes and I will happily replay these calls with the two members of the team to see if there are points we can learn from. I am happy for you to also attend the practice if you wish to hear these calls back for yourself. Once again, I am sorry that you feel your experience today was poor and I can assure you that we take all feedback very seriously. Thanks you for reading my response, Sharon.

Review titled Appointment process - shocking
Rated 1 star out of 5
by Anonymous - Posted on 16 March 2024
For an elderly person the process and delay in getting an urgent appointment is poor. After calling the surgery numerous times, I finally got through and provided details of why I needed an urgent appointment. Some 6 1/2 hours later, I received a text message saying that all the appointments had now gone, but due to my condition I was informed that I needed to make my way immediately to a walk-in clinic. Time and time again there are inexcusable hurdles put in your way to simply get a straight answer on what to do next.

Review titled Another mess
Rated 1 star out of 5
by TERESA JONES - Posted on 16 March 2024
Yet another foul-up from Alvanley. I’ve been waiting for a treatment for several months. The first delay was caused by Alvanley not informing me that they’d sent through the prescription I was waiting for. That sat at the chemists for several weeks. When I finally got it, I then had to book an appointment with a doctor. I turned up for that appointment and was told the procedure couldn’t go ahead because Alvanley hadn’t received the go-ahead from the relevant department at Stepping Hill. How the hell didn’t Alvanley know this was the case instead of having me turn up for the appointment? That was last week and I’ve still not heard from the doctor at Alvanley who promised to ‘chase it up’ for me. This is the latest in a far-too-long list of administrative errors at Alvanley. In fact, it’s become quite the norm.

Review titled Needs improvement and more training
Rated 2 stars out of 5

I went to the Dr asking for advice and treatment for peri-menopause having been told prior in early December that "if I was over 45 and thought I was then I probably was, we don't test anymore". After explaining my symptoms the doctor said "I suppose you are expecting me to give you HRT" to which I responded I expect you to help me understand what options are available and give me advice. I am now awaiting a blood test on 19th March to test my hormones which I asked for two months ago and was told they didn't do!! Very frustrating, I think the doctors require more training in this area.

Called up to book my daughter in for flu back r short wait on the phone then got through to a friendly receptionist who was able to book me in the very same day which suited me great. Nurse was lovely and was really good with my daughter, only a short 5 minute wait for my appointment. Overall brilliant service.

Review titled Very efficient
Rated 4 stars out of 5

Mostly the Dr’s I have seen in the last 2yrs have been very good . With the exception of one who did nothing and delayed me getting treatment. I then saw another Dr who fast tracked me to see the right person at the hospital. I think the prescription system is excellent far better than it used to be. The staff are usually very respectful and kind so there is no need to worry about talking to someone. I am very pleased I changed to this Drs Surgery a few years ago and hopefully this will continue for the future
