Review titled Misinformed and waited months for physio for serious injury
Rated 1 star out of 5
by Anonymous - Posted on 31 March 2025
I dislocated my shoulder at the end of Dec (2024) and was told by the A&E doctors to request physiotherapy when back at home a few weeks after the initial recovery period. I called up Urban Village practice towards the end of Jan and asked if I could be referred for physiotherapy, and was told I would have to make a face-to-face appointment with a GP. However there were no appointments available for the next two weeks, and after that I was out of the country for a month. Obviously with a severe joint injury, getting physiotherapy early on is vital to recovering full use and RoM of the joint. I explained the situation to the receptionist, and asked whether I might be able to be sent just some basic exercises somehow, or whether there was any kind of online or remote services I could access. She was sympathetic and said I could email the practice, and sent me an email address via text. I sent an email and received an annoyed and blunt response that this was an internal email address that I should not have access to! Fair enough but if that's the case then your receptionist should not be giving it out to people! I booked an appointment for the 4th March, when I returned I attended this appointment. The GP, having assessed the state of my injury and shoulder mobility which was pretty bad by that time, referred me for physiotherapy and for an ultrasound scan. I was at this point still experiencing frequent pain and restricted movement in the shoulder, hindering everyday tasks. As it turned out, the physiotherapy referral actually meant that I would get a phone call in another three weeks time. I called up again, asking whether there was any way of accessing physiotherapy sooner than that, especially given that I had already waited over a month, and at this point my shoulder was actually deteriorating every day, and again was told no, this is the only way to access physiotherapy. On the 21st March I got a call from the NhS physio. She was really helpful, and when I gave her the timeline of the injury she asked why it had taken so long for me to request physio, I explained the situation and she said that self-referral is always available! She also told me that in the case of a severe injury or accident when you are requesting to see a physiotherapist for the first time following the accident, you should be put in contact with someone within 24 hours! She was very surprised that I had been told on multiple occasions that self-referral is not possible, and been made to wait for so long. I have a lot of time and patience for the NHS, but I have never encountered such extreme incompetence. I am young, athletic and healthy and should be well on the way to recovery with minimal treatment required, and instead I was messed around for months, given false information and now stuck with a debilitating injury that will take months longer than necessary to fully recover, and may never recover full RoM. Honestly shockingly bad, please, please sort yourselves out.

Review titled Urgent training needs for reception colleagues
Rated 2 stars out of 5
by Anonymous - Posted on 28 February 2025
I've called the GP on several occasions and had the misfortune of speaking with the colleague whose name starts with R. Really unpleasant tone, speaks over you, and generally unable to process straightforward requests such as determining whether blood test results have returned. Gets confused, defensive and aggressive, accusing you of asking her for medical advice. Leaving this review as it has happened a handful of time so it was not an isolated incident, and to highlight the need for training.

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We’re sorry to hear about your experience when calling the practice and appreciate you bringing this to our attention. We understand how important it is for patients to access their test results efficiently, and we acknowledge that confirming whether results have been received can sometimes be more complex than it may seem. Blood tests and other investigations are processed through external laboratories, and results do not always arrive at the same time or in a predictable manner. Some may require further review by a clinician before being shared, while others may still be awaiting completion. For these reasons, our reception team follows specific protocols to ensure accuracy and confidentiality when handling such requests. That said, we sincerely regret if any interaction with our staff felt dismissive or unhelpful. Our aim is always to provide polite and professional service, and we will use your feedback as part of our ongoing staff training and development. An alternative to you phoning the practice is to use the NHS App, you can down load or view your records from the following link https://www.nhs.uk/nhs-app/ If you need any support using technology to view your records we have regular support sessions in our waiting room. There is one tomorrow morning (Monday) and the details can always be found in notices in our waiting room or on our social media pages. Once you have seen your records you will be able to tell which results are back and any messages that the clinician has left for you. Thank you again for your input—we are always looking to improve our service and patient experience. Kind regards Kay Kay Keane Practice Manager

I frequently have a positive experience when I come to this practice. Far better than others I have been to. The doctor I saw today was very attentive, kind and reassuring. I’d name her but it isn’t letting me submit the review with a name! She calmed my nerves and gave great advice. Thank you!

I have always had an excellent experience at this practice. The practice is clean, staff are polite and the auto check in is so easy. I was seen today early as I checked in early which was great and unexpected. My doctor put me at ease really quickly, made me feel heard and respected my concerns. I would be more than happy to see them again. The practice also has family planning/contraception clinics which are sometimes held at the weekend which I find really useful and I am so glad Urban Village is my local doctors surgery as I haven’t had great experiences elsewhere in the past.
