Review titled Great and not so great
Rated 4 stars out of 5
by Liz - Posted on 25 April 2024
I attended the pharmacy inside the GP surgery at Heysham Health Centre to return the medications of my father who had recently passed away. I was informed by the two counter assistants that they could not accept them unless I were to remove the sticky labels from each pack, around at least 50 I would say. No empathy due to being tearful due to the circumstances. As anybody is aware, the sticky prescription labels cannot be removed from the medication packs, for safety reasons I assume. I returned home and cut open each pack with scissors, removed the sleeves of tablets and placed these in a carrier bag, and the empty packs in another carrier bag. Quite difficult and fiddly to do as I have arthritis in one hand. I then took these the next day to the Pharmacy inside the GP surgery at the West End. The assistant there could not have been more kind, empathetic and helpful. When I explained what had happened at Heysham she was shocked and stated that this was not the case and they ought to have been accepted. She apologised for their attitude. I would like to say how this kindness went a long way and was I very thankful. I know which pharmacy I shall be using in the future!

I would like to know why doctors always refer patients to places they cannot get to especially at stupid times.I got referred to garstang for dermatology and i live in morecambe, and sometimes my partner gets referred to westmorland when they can get the same treatment at lancaster or morecambe.Same for most patients especially the elderly.

Dear Claire, I'm sorry to read of you frustration i can assure you we send patients to the best option for treatment in this area and the only community dermatologist service is in Garstang referring you to dermatology at the RLI would incur a wait of months possibly years. we send patients outside of Lancaster and Morecambe to try and ensure our patients get seen as soon as possible. regards, Chris Greenwood Patient Engagement Manager Bay Medical Group.

Review titled Disappointing service

My 18 month old has been suffering badly with a rattling cough and cold and was advised by the doctor that she needs antibiotics due to her tonsils- whether this is the strep A that is going round it was not confirmed as so. The doctor told me they had ran out of liquid antibiotics and therefore would have to give her tablet form? Please tell me how you give a baby of 18 months old tablet antibiotic??? I have no doubt all the liquid antibiotic was probably handed out to a lot of older children more capable of taking tablets! We tried to give her the tablets crushed up with yoghurt (have you ever tasted powdered antibiotic, even as an adult it’s vile) however the baby refused and wasted four tablets as she wouldn’t take the medication with her food. I rang back up days later and spoke to a receptionist who explained they still did not have any liquid form and told me to persevere with the tablets despite being told she would not take them. My 18 month old is now off taking any medication that she normally does not bother about due to the nasty taste and texture of being forced solid tablet antibiotic crushed when I think this could have been avoided by handing out the antibiotics more age appropriately.
