Review titled There are no appointments
Rated 1 star out of 5
by Dan - Posted on 29 January 2025
I have been with this practice for 2 months and tried to boo k 2 appointments and have received very poor service on both occasions and simply cannot get an appointment. You go on line it directs you to the phone, I rang today at 0800 and was told there were no appointment’s and that’s it and to try again tomorrow. This loop of ring and no appointments so ring tomorrow is the norm and having been assured that the pre Christmas issue was a one off due to high demand etc and “Under normal circumstances” appointments were available is a simply un truth. There is a complaints procedure that is unfit for purpose as it doesn’t work and you get verbal assurances that are simply not true as I have found out. Where are all these doctors and why can’t you get an appointment with one. Terrible customer service and when I saw a GP he didn’t listen to me and he knew better which led to ineffective pain medication that I have had to live with after I had an operation which I pointed out would be the case.

Hello and Thank You for your comments I am sorry that you are not happy with the practice. Booking appointments can be done in numerous ways but is currently hindered by the sheer number of DNAs (Did Not Attend) which the practice is dealing with. Please have a look at this on the practice website https://www.beechwoodmedicalcentre.co.uk/pages/Did-Not-Attends We have ROUTINE appointments which are limited and can usually be booked up to two weeks in advance. We then have URGENT appointments that can be booked each day and are usually available until mid afternoon. We also have 3 and 5 day appointments which are for patients that need a ROUTINE appointment but cannot wait for two weeks. We also have many other services that the reception staff are trained to sign post patients to. We also have a Duty Doctor everyday that can see patients urgently (that day) if this is deemed necessary. I will pass your comments on to the GP that you did see for their reflection. Once again, thank you for your comments Nick Giles Practice Business Manager

Review titled A big let down

Thank you for your response. In addition to my previous review, I believe the medication I was prescribed was not in stock and/or not given to me because it is contraindicated for my condition. It should not have been prescribed. Therefore, the issue is with the practice, not the Pharmacy. I would appreciate this being reviewed with the prescriber please and a formal response provided. You will be able to find my contact details via your appointment system which should show my name as listed on here and the outcome of the telephone appointment on Friday 8th November. Please note, I am still without treatment. I look forwards to your response. Thank you.

Hello Mr Wilson I am sorry, but I cannot respond to patient individual complaints using this review section. If you wish to formally complain then please do so using the methods explained on our practice website. Please make sure you include your full name, date of birth and current address. We can then formally respond and ask the clinician involved to comment. Many Thanks Once Again Nick Giles Practice Business Manager

I waited 4 days to eventually speak to a health professional and get a prescription. I then attended the practice to be told by the on-site pharmacist that I had been prescribed something they don't stock! I was advised to ask a doctor for a prescription that could be given. The receptionist advised me that she had sent an alert to the doctors on site asking for a new prescription. After over an hour waiting, I was told that the practice was closing and needed to leave. I was advised that the treatment I need is "not time critical," so no timescale given. I am now sitting in the car park, absolutely bewildered at the complete failure of getting the treatment I need. I don't know when, or if, I will receive it. What a letdown and embarrassment on an already broken NHS

Hello Mr Wilson Thank you for your review. I cannot respond about your specific details, but the clinician at Beechwood Medical Centre will have provided you with a prescription that they felt you needed. The onsite pharmacy is not owned or managed by Beechwood Medical Centre, but is merely located in the same premises. I therefore cannot comment unfortunately on what they have said or done. If this pharmacy did not have the medication that was prescribed for you then the pharmacy should have returned your prescription to you so you could obtain this medication elsewhere (at a different pharmacy). If you did ask for an alternative prescription from our clinicians, and it is not urgent, then this may take up to 48 hour to produce (normal protocol) and it looks like this was explained to you by the reception team. I am sorry for this misunderstanding. You may wish to take up your concerns with the Pharmacy Manager? Thank You Nick Giles Practice Business Manager

Review titled Unhelpful
Rated 1 star out of 5

My 4 year old has had issues with her breathing and every time we go to the gp, they basically advise they cannot do anything and we end up taking her to a&e and having to sit on their for hours and she then ends up getting prescribed steroids from the hospital. With the NHS being stretched, we always go to the gp first but when they are being this unhelpful, it’s not ideal having to go onto a&e for a long period of time when there’s people with a greater need to be on their. Yet when beechwood medical centre advise to “steam her chest” and “take to a&e”, no wonder it is a stretched service.

Dear Patient Thank you for your feedback. I have passed this message on to one of the Senior GPs for information. Unfortunately, unless we have the details of the patient involved, it is impossible to comment on what you have been advised. Perhaps you can consider e-mailing the practice with the specific patient details so we can look into this in more detail. You can do this here: wyicb-cal.beechwoodmedicalcentre@nhs.net Many Thanks for the information and I am sorry that we have not met your expectations. Nick Giles Practice Business Manager

Review titled Great GP Practice

How good is this GP Surgery. I have recently moved into the area from Manchester. The registration process was very easy as I did it online. I called the practice today about a long term health condition I have and the phone was answered in seconds by a very polite lady. I was offered a face to face appointment or a telephone appointment today or next week (my choice) I chose today and was booked in for that afternoon. My practice in Manchester only does telephone appointments to start with and if the doctor needs to see you then they book you in. I was seen 5 minutes early by a nice, male doctor who examined me and then prescribed me some medication which I collected whilst I was at the surgery. This is a massive improvement from what I am used to. Well done to all, I shall be spreading the word.
