Had lots of time for me and listened to my concerns and good follow up actions in a timely manner, the GP is an asset to the practice . My appt was on time , GP couldn’t of been more helpful and practice looks much better now it’s been painted.

Review titled Ridiculous Appointment System
Rated 1 star out of 5
by Simon Younger - Posted on 23 April 2024
I have recently moved to Birtley and opted to use BMG. I've had ongoing health issues since October with coughing and chest infections, I've tried twice now to book an appointment to no avail. Every time I am blocked and told to call in the morning for an appointment that day?? This is the only doctors I have had where this is the case. It's utterly ridiculous and due to my work life I cannot just drop everything the same day. Other doctors were flexible and gave appointment options or over the phone. I will be moving from this doctors to another as so far it is by far the worst and unaccommodating doctors surgery I have dealt with. I am still ill and without any help or support after logging 2 x Econsults both stating call the next day at 7am for an appointment!!!?

Dear Mr Younger, I am sorry that you are unsatisfied with the service you have received at Birtley. Appointments can be pre-booked from 6pm on a Sunday evening for that coming week, with one of our Advanced Practitioners. If you would like to discuss this further please contact the Practice and we can look into this for you. Kind Regards Birtley Medical Group

Kindly note that in line with most GP practices, patients at Birtley practice are no longer able to order prescriptions over the phone – this is in interests of patient safety. Instead as you say patients are able to post or bring in a repeat prescription request to the practice however the majority of our patients either order their repeat prescription via the NHS app or via their community pharmacy. If you would like more information regarding how to access the NHS app please don’t hesitate to contact the practice and one of our Reception staff will be happy to help you.

Review titled Everything is a battle
Rated 1 star out of 5
by Joanne Wollaston - Posted on 27 March 2024
I have been a patient at Birtley Medical Group for many years. Unfortunately the service provided has deteriorated to such an extent that I am about to transfer to another GP practice. This is not a decision I have taken lightly, but is formed after a number of dissatisfactory experiences with the practice. The biggest problem is access to GP appointments. The practice operates a ‘same day’ appointment process requiring patients to telephone at 7am for an appointment later that same day. Whilst this is fine for emergency situations, it is no good for those who work full time and wish to pre book an GP appointment to discuss an ongoing health issue. I find the process of accessing help through my GP practice extremely difficult. The practice always used to have a family, friendly feel, now it is a battle to access the help required. I appreciate all surgeries are facing increasing demand, but other surgeries in the area don’t seem to operate the inflexible approach that Birtley Medical Group do. Two weeks ago I attended an appointment with a locum doctor at my GP surgery. I had been unwell for over two weeks at that point, yet I was made to feel I was wasting precious GP time as it was ‘just a virus’. Two days later I was admitted to hospital with pneumonia and pleurisy. I feel that my condition was not taken seriously by the locum GP.

Review titled Same day appointment, diagnosis and treatment
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Sheila - Posted on 29 March 2024
Used the practice website to contact them in the early hours after being really poorly for a few days, I was called back before 10am and had the appointment with the nurse in the afternoon, he knew what I had and prescribed the medication instantly. He was great, the receptionists were lovely and I no longer have whooping cough!

Review titled Fantastic service
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Anne johnson - Posted on 29 March 2024
Used e-consult after a quick chat to receptionist re weekend timings etc. Spoke to Doctor who arranged my visit the next day. Visit to surgery started with receptionist and i asked her a general question about new patients. She replied with confidence and relevent knfo for me. The Dr arranged for meds and sent script to the pharmacy immediately. Also arranged an x-ray for a few days later. Couldn't have asked for a more all round session. Dr was wonderful and fully explained my issues and meds. Couldnt fault the service I experienced on this occasion.

I recently completed 2 e-consult forms for separate problems for my mother-in-law. She was called the following morning on both occasions and seen by doctors very quickly with follow up treatment arranged where necessary. Definitely an imorovement on the service she had been experiencing. Thank you
