  1. Review titled Blood test system collapsed

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 14 September 2024

I was due to have a blood test on the 15th of June, still havent had it. 3 months after a cyber attack, I still can't get a blood test. Who knows how many serious problems are undiagnosed because of the GP Alliance incompetence in finding a different test lab. If only I could opt out of their cartel

Hello there, we deeply apologise for the ongoing disruption to our Phlebotomy service, following a cyber attack on Synnovis, the pathology provider, in June. This has had a profound impact on all operations and services across South East London, with BGPA and other healthcare providers following strict guidance from NHS England. In response to your statement regarding us not finding a different test lab, we commenced a mutual aid plan for blood testing with South West London Pathology on Friday 14th June, with support from NHS England. This allowed us to open up a number of clinics across the borough for our most urgent patients. In recent weeks, we have been able to reopen nearly all clinic sites and are in the process of clearing the backlog of urgent blood test requests. There is optimism that, following a repatriation process, we will be able to offer a full service once again in the coming weeks. We are very sorry for this ongoing disruption. If you have any Phlebotomy related queries, please call 0203 930 0245, or visit our website at: www.bromleygpalliance.org.

  2. Review titled Unsafe practice- blood test sample blood extraction

Rated 3 stars out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 02 August 2024

I went to this surgery yesterday 1/8/24 for I was scheduled for blood test. I was directed to where the blood extraction will happen. I met the lady who did my blood sample for the test. She was kind and accomodating. She did all the information details check . She made me comfortable in the armchair. As she was putting the band on my left upper arm, having her prepared the needles and blood bottles she just suddenly took the needle and introduce into my vein and I realized she did not wipe my skin with skin wipes with alcohol. I am a nurse working for NHS and I do extract bloods for my patient in the ward. It was unsafe practice as any infection or bacteria would have lodged into my system and put me at risk of acquiring any infection and entered into my system. I believe the staff should be reminded that this practice is unsafe and she should be sent for refresher course. I am a nurse and I know the protocol. I would be worried for those who has no knowledge of the procedure and would be put at risk of acquiring infection should this practice continues. This practice should stop ASAP.

  3. Review titled Disappointed with Waiting Times

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Michael Williams - Posted on 03 April 2024

This morning I arrived at Beckenham Beacon for a blood test appointment. Despite an empty waiting room, I waited for 30 minutes before approaching a phlebotomist. Unfortunately, they were all gathered in a cubicle, chatting amongst themselves. After several attempts to get their attention, I was finally told that I needed an appointment and should have called to book one. While I understand the importance of appointments, the waiting room was completely empty, and the staff appeared to be socializing rather than attending to potential patients. To make matters worse, the next available appointment isn't for two weeks. This experience was frustrating, especially considering the long wait time despite a lack of patients and the unhelpful attitude of the staff. It feels like a waste of taxpayer money and resources.

Dear Michael, We're sorry you were unable to have a blood test this morning. We do adopt an appointment based service only to manage the high volume of patients. We hope you have since been able to book an appointment, if not, please do not hesitate to contact our Phlebotomy team on 0203 930 0245. Sometimes there are cancellations, so the wait time for an appointment can be quicker than usual. We hope to see you soon.

  4. Review titled No appointments

Rated 1 star out of 5

I telephoned Ballater surgery today to request a telephone appointment for my husband so that he could obtain and discuss his blood test results. I was informed that there were no appointments at all for the foreseeable future. I was told to phone back next week when there “maybe”some appointments available in May! My husband’s blood test results affect the medication he takes so it is important that he knows his results. I wonder what is the point of a doctor’s receptionist if they cannot make appointments. This is ridiculous!!

  6. Review titled Extremely poor service

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Anghel - Posted on 14 March 2023

I’ve just had my blood test appointment at 13 Ravensbourne Road in Bromley. The nurse pierced my veins in 4 different locations on both forearms and hand, manage to get one doze of blood and gave up. I was told that I’m dehydrated and is not supposed to drink any tea or coffee on the day of the blood test and I suppose to drink plenty of water and even bring with me a bottle of water to drink while I’m waiting to be seen. Im not overweight and I’ve never had any issues at all on any blood test in the past. My last blood test was done just 3 months ago without any problems. My time and blood was completely wasted. I’ve been told that the blood taken will be disposed of as is not enough. I have to start again with the booking and my follow up appointment with the doctor which is already booked would be wasted as the results wont be in, in time.

Tried to book my GP requested blood tests today. Online system rejected me and so i tried phoning them on 02039300245. Their answering system says you are in a queue, suggests online booking and then cuts you off before finishing its message. I tried three times and have stopped trying now. Stressed patients deserve better!!
