  1. Review titled Well I had my long awaited appointment for on going problem today

by Annette Hooper - Posted on 02 October 2024

Today I had my appointment that I had been waiting for and it didn't go well. At 9.00am today I saw a GP at Berrow surgery and it was awful, I explained several times that I felt unwell and problem still on going since April so for the last 6 months, I was upset and was hoping I could be helped to see a consultant or professional regarding this as I was referred in May by my own GP, but was told in no uncertain terms today they cannot help even though hospital informed me they could get me a quicker appointment if GP would state I needed to see someone as problem had worsened, but every time I said this I was told it was the same? I had no empathy given I will state when I saw my own GP x 2 originally he was hopeful I would be seen fairly quickly and was very understanding but was refused an appointment with him on this occasion even though I waited many weeks. The staff were very nice at reception, but GP not so much. I then ask what if I went private which I can't really afford and as I've spent all my working life as Support worker and Care staff for 43 years and am now sixty nine so think I've contributed to my health care , anyway I was told repeatedly if I had a private appointment at Nuffield I would have to follow through with any treatments privately and pay?? Which doesn't seem right. So at the finish was told they could write again to hospital team but it would not be any different as I was not any worse but I said the problem had worsened so wasn't really listened to and did not feel cared for in any way, I went home and cried to my family and would like her to know that even though it will make no difference, it would be nice if a GP wanted to fight your corner as they used to, but not any more so I have been unwell and with this problem for over 6 months and anemic oh but I can have another blood test as been on iron tablets for months , I do not understand what you must do to get help these days as the problem I've got is advertised and repeatedly told on adverts and on media to get checked. Well I've said it now not that it will make any difference.

Dear Mrs Hooper Thank you for your response and bringing this to my attention. I am sorry you feel you have not been supported by the medical centre. Unfortunately, there is very little, as primary care, we can do to influence the waiting lists at the hospitals. However, I see the Dr has arranged for our secretaries to send and expedite letter to the department, so I can only hope this will help. Kind regards Joanna Everett Quality & Complaints Manager

  2. Review titled Something to hide

Rated 1 star out of 5

by It's my life - Posted on 20 September 2024

I recently noticed serious anomalies in my Patient Access account, most seriously everything has been deleted in relation to my rare disease, related mri scans and neurosurgery, contacts with doctors over serious symptoms have been removed and some blood results, I have screenshots of these so they were once there but subsequently this practice decided to remove them and limit what I can see, deleted or just so I cannot now see them is unknown. I requested politely for them to be all put back and an explanation why they suddenly decided to remove items? and was told it had been passed to the registeations depsrtment and it was closed off as done in askmygp the answer to get rid of the patient before anything at all has been solved. Nothing has been done to date. Something to hide... Appalling at best, dangerous at worst.

  3. Review titled Still poor service

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Mike Lacey - Posted on 17 September 2024

After using the hopeless askmygp service I recieved an email indicating my askmygp clearly had not been read. I have been requested to get a cholesterol level blood test following a heart procedure. Using askmygp I requested this same test, only to be told by reply that I should seek a check of my cholesterol as in June this year it had been elevated. Clearly the responder had not read my askmygp request. So I phoned and after 30 minutes of wait I managed to speak to someone, explaining my problem resulted in my being told I should request a blood test as, yes you guessed it I was told my cholesterol was high in June so I need to have a blood test. Durr... After explaining yet again why I was calling I was told it would be sometime in October and they would get back to me with a time and date. Despite being promised a call back with a date and time for a blood test I am still waiting.

Dear Mr Lacey I am sorry you feel we are offering a poor service. I see you raised an Ask My GP request on 16th September, we responded the same day to ask you to contact us to arrange an appointment for a blood test, as these types of appointments are not managed through Ask My GP. You then spoke to a colleague this morning, who is trying to arrange for an appointment early in the morning as it is a fasting blood test. She confirmed she would call you back this afternoon. As it is still only 16:23, I cannot see how we have let you down or provided a 'poor service'. Kind regards Joanna Everett Quality & Complaints Manager

I received a phone call from receptionist on 9th September, after using ask my gp on 21st August I had requested an face to face appointment with my GP, who I had seen x 2 from around April with ongoing problem which on 2nd appointment made a referral which I can't book as no appointments and have to wait for phone call, still waiting, problem has worsened so I was surprised when on said phone call was told I couldn't see my named GP so was offered an appointment 2nd of october with another GP, I asked if I could please see my GP who had been dealing with problem told no appointments no matter how long I wait, and it has been quite a wait. My point is on ask my GP you can ask for named DR so why aren't they doing it? I feel quite ill with problem and was happy to wait if I had been offered appointment with him as he understands problem, what is wrong at this surgery? I thought they had turned a corner sadly not, and the receptionist wasn't interested no empathy, so in a nut shell long wait and still can't see my GP, who made referral and problem on going .

Dear Mrs Hooper I am sorry you are not satisfied with the service you have recently received. I can understand your frustrations with regards to the waiting time for the referral, however, we have no jurisdiction over the hospital clinics, so cannot change the priorities of this. With regards to seeing the same Dr, I see we did explain the Dr you wanted to see did not have any clinics, so instead we did offer an appointment with another 'salaried' GP, to ensure continuity. I am sorry if you are not satisfied with this. Many thanks Joanna Everett Quality & Complaints Manager

  5. Review titled Awful practice, rude staff

by Anonymous - Posted on 10 September 2024

After starting a diagnosis process October of last year, and being referred this August, I have now been told that they are no longer doing referrals. I have been told to contact my GP and book an appointment. As if this is possible. This service is appalling. I submitted a request 8 days ago and got a reply saying it's been marked as urgent and has been triaged to be contacted within 3 days. Yesterday I replied to my original thread asking for an update, no reply. Today I resubmitted another request and got met with a rude reply to someone clearly in pain. Not a I'm sorry to hear this we aim to contact asap however we're overloaded at the moment, but more of a "there's a waiting list, suck it up" type reply. There is no compassion at this gp service and they fail patients again and again. Unfortunately I do not drive so I cannot relocate to another GP surgery, but avoid at all costs.

  6. Review titled Always different locum

Rated 1 star out of 5

    by Ginger T - Posted on 03 September 2024

After waiting four weeks for an urgent problem (sent on askmygp), I replied to cancel the request as the stress was causing me severe anxiety waiting. I then received a phone call to book an appointment with a locum. I refused as never had any luck with locums, I have a serious illness that need continuity. I was then told the surgery were unhappy with the locums had been using and were now using a much better company. So I agreed to the phone call. It was worse than ever. The conversation was all one sided from myself, complete silence at the other end, twice I had to ask if anyone was still on the line. Complete waste of time. I agree with others, this surgery needs closing permanently and a new one set up in a traditional manner like still exist in majority of the UK. It is all very well saying you can learn from mistakes but you don't, they continue and get worse. A dangerous '(non) medical centre'.

Dear Patient I am sorry to hear of your recent experience with our surgery. Whilst I can understand your frustrations, closing a surgery is never an option, as this will only put additional pressure on the other services within our community. It is important we understand what went wrong and put the necessary steps in place to ensure this doesn't happen in the future. With this is mind, I would like to investigate your concerns and would ask that you send an email to somicb.enquiries-burnhammc@nhs.net with your details. Dear Patient I am sorry you feel the surgery have let you down with regards to your UTI. Unfortunately, I am unable to investigate this any further, so if you would like to write to me at somicb.enquiries-burnhammm@nhs.net, I will be able to see what went wrong. Closing a surgery is never a good option, as you have to think where all our patients would go, when all other services, are also under immense pressure. The best option is to investigate what went wrong, apologise and learn from it, so it doesn't happen again. Kind regards Joanna Everett Quality & Complaints Manager

  8. Review titled Still a shocking practice

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 18 June 2024

This is one awful surgery Sadly today this surgery continues to be awful. I can spent forever as number one in the queue when I try to call for an appointment. Eventually I attended in person while my phone was still on hold. Using the ask my gp, which only opens for a very short period of time each day is equally painful. While the NHS is in melt down Burnham medical centre stands out as one of the very worst. It may be time to consider closing this surgery and send patients to an alternative centre. It couldn't possibly be any worse. Date of experience: 18 June 2024

Dear Patient Thank you for your feedback, I am sorry you have not had a positive experience with the Burnham & Berrow Medical Centre. To help us improve it would be useful to be able to properly investigate your concerns. If you would like me to do this, please write to us at somicb.enquiries-burnhammc@nhs.net. Closing a surgery is never the answer, as this only puts extra demands on other services, who themselves are struggling. Therefore, I would ask that you help us to improve by providing me with more information. Kind Regards Joanna Everett Quality & Complaints Manager

  9. Review titled Diagnosis by text

by Anonymous - Posted on 03 September 2024

I have a rare congenital neurological disease, with worsening progression of symptoms I contacted the rrquesting a GP home visit. They don't do them for anyone anymore, Instead I was text a link to a leaflet to wear gloves (I am housebound and it was hot weather). Anything to avoid contact with a patient. You cannot be diagnosed via texting a leaflet. How do they get away with it?

  10. Review titled Much improved on past experiences

Rated 4 stars out of 5

by Anon - Posted on 15 May 2024

This centre is doing really well under difficult circumstances. I've had my share of problems in the past, hard to make appointments etc but recently I have been delighted with the service. I used the AskMyGP service to raise a concern, that did take a while to get a response to (fine there, understand my condition was not a priority). The response was excellent, got a face-to-face appointment in Berrow at a time that worked for me (I have a very inflexible job when it comes to hours and taking phone calls). Dr was lovely, really understanding and patient, ordered bloods to be taken and a referral for a minor surgical procedure. Bloods taken the following week by the excellent phlebotomist in Burnham, results came back quickly via the NHS app. While this was ongoing, had another appointment for the surgical pre-op, again at a suitable time. One of my bloods came back as borderline, so another blood draw appointment made. Really pleased with the service I've had as part of this recent issue. I don't work for the NHS, but another public sector industry and the pressures being faced are unreal, so I think that the experience I have had recently has been exceptional - thank you!
