This practice is notorious for the difficulty is getting an appointment with a GP at the moment. Although many surgeries are facing similar problems at the moment, Burley Group Practice seems to be hit particularly hard, perhaps due to the number of patients it has registered across its sites. Despite many ongoing issues with the service provided, they do seem to be taking steps to resolve many of them. The poorly chosen reception staff member who acted as a rude and stoic gatekeeper to appointments and prescriptions seems to have been replaced by a team of helpful and friendly receptionists who go out of their way to help despite being overrun. It’s quite surprising that they’re still accepting new patients given the already extremely high demand on services. I would still not recommend Burnley Grouo Practice to a friend or family member but it is clear that they are taking action to improve the service provided despite extremely high pressure. Let’s hope that they soon receive the resources they need to make this a good, or even excellent, practice.

Dear Patient Thank you for your feedback; we are indeed trying hard to improve our service. One of the reasons for four practices merging was due to impending retirements of very experienced GPs and whilst we have partially replaced them, we have not been able to fully replace them. We have considered closing our list, but this then impacts on neighbouring practices who are also struggling. We have had a high turnover of staff in our reception team, and you are correct in your view that this is now a well-functioning team – I will pass on your feedback. We are making other changes in reception too in the way that our appointment requests are triaged. Whilst this is currently in the pilot stage it does seem to be working well. It would be appreciated if you would join our Patient Participation Group (PPG) if you are able where this feedback would be welcome and where you would be able to learn more about how the practice runs. Please email burnley.gp@nhs.net with your details and we will send you more information if this is something you could help with. Helen Harrison Practice Manager
