Review titled Great Doctor
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Anonymous - Posted on 13 November 2024
Both my husband and I had to visit the GP this morning, the Doctor has a great bedside manner, made us feel at ease and explained everything to us in an easy to understand way. We left feeling that we understood what the next steps would be and felt reassured. The Doctor is a credit to the practice.

Review titled Disgraceful practice
Rated 1 star out of 5

This practice used to be good. Now it’s a sham. It seems the only time you can get a non urgent appointment is 8am on a Monday morning because “the books are closed” you are told to call or visit the surgery, then you hang on for a ridiculous length of time. My husbands appointment was booked for 1pm today, we sat for 40 minutes in a waiting room with just 1 other patient . After 35 minutes the receptionist said the GP was on his way from another surgery. The GP said he was not due to start work till 2pm so why not make an appointment then! The receptionists are unprofessional and certainly not approachable, they sat back chatting about texting while 2 people were standing at the desk, finally they did their job! I have unfortunately had dealings with the surgery over the last couple of months and quite frankly dread it and leave there feeling worse. All said and done I have to say the GP was very good so I’m thankful for that. Just go back to making appointments when they’re needed, ie open the books permanently! I’m sure there will be a good excuse why this can’t be done.

Review titled No GP
Rated 3 stars out of 5

We booked two appointments, one to have our newborn seen and another for myself. On both occassions I asked to see a GP. We went in and actually thought we were speaking to a GP. On my second visit I had the same person and enquired whether or not they were a GP to be told that they were a physician. I am now wondering if the practice is being run without a GP and why we weren't told that we were not being seen by a GP.

Review titled Very helpful
Rated 5 stars out of 5

My mum was in extreme pain and couldn't walk. The practice rang within the hour from the eConsult. They provided a prescription for painkillers and made a referral for a district nurse to come and do a blood test. They said that they might not get the referral until after the Easter weekend but they attended to my mums address about two hours after speaking to the surgery! Very helpful, thank you!

The lady doctor I saw, was extremely caring, and spoke with a considerate attitude. She was able to put my mind at rest, with a referral to ENT. I know I am in the best hands!!

Review titled Hiding behind technology ?
Rated 2 stars out of 5

I have been a patient of Burstead Wood surgery for many years, but post Covid things seem to be very different. A system seems to have been designed to actually prevent you getting medical help. I had a question about the side effects of a medication I had been given. On phoning the surgery , I was told I would have to complete the on line e consultation form so this could be reviewed before any appointment could be arranged. So I set about logging on the my NHS account and completing the required set of questions ( none of which where relevant to my problem or question) After doing this twice ( the first time the system crashed) I got to the end of the form , and a big orange banner appeared saying that my condition could not be dealt with by this process, and I should seek medical help ! It then gives you a tab to close the form . I was under the illusion that this was the entire purpose of this was to access medical help ? It then tells you to phone 111 or go to A & E. So next ,I phoned 111, and went through the same set of tick box questions as the form . This in all took about an hour ( got to say the call centre person at 111 was fine). However at the end of the day, they determined they could not advise me what action to take and they would have to phone Burstead Wood. A miracle occurred , and I was given an appointment the same day to see a doctor, despite being told that no appointments were available during my previous calls. My question was answered after a brief conversation with the doctor. We all know the NHS is under pressure, but the amount of time and resources which was wasted by going round in circles is ridiculous. The process seems designed to actually stop or put patients off seeking help. I am used to using online services via a mobile, I don’t know how elderly or people who are not used to online systems would cope. This practice needs to review how it provides access to medical services, and apply some logic to cases, rather than waste time filling in online forms that don’t work.

Appointment 40 minutes late, Doctor failed to send prescription to chemist, wait 45 minutes on phone when number 1 in queue. Surgery don't open emails, even though they asked for them. Surgery don't answer e-consultant requests. This Surgery is beyond a joke!!!!

We do apologise for your recent experience with Bursted Wood Surgery .We have looked into your review and can assure you that your e consult was responded to the same day as it was submitted ( we do have 48 working hours to respond ) and your emails were opened and answered in a timely manner. Unfortunately we do experience a high volume of calls at certain times of the day and reception try their upmost to answer them as soon as they can. We have introduced a call back function on our phones so patients do not have to wait in a queue. If you have any other issues with the surgery we would be grateful if you could please put them in writing to the practice manager so we can investigate them further .Thankyou

Review titled Wouldn’t recommend

I have been with this practice since it opened many years ago & it was excellent, the doctors and staff were very helpful. Now this practice is beyond a joke - can never get an appointment, couldn’t get an appointment for my 2 year old for a week!! Do online consultation, get email back to say if not heard by ….. contact surgery - don’t hear back, wait over an hour to get through to be told “oh that’s just an automated reply”. No point even trying to contact this practice, might as well go to Urgent Care & sit in there for 3+ hours, at least you get seen. If you do go to the surgery there are never any patients waiting, receptionists sitting chatting to each other & loads of staff sitting about in the office. This used to be a brilliant surgery

Review titled Used to be great
Rated 2 stars out of 5

They used to be brilliant with daily walk in hour to see the GP for urgent needs but now you’re lucky if you get anything within a week and for things that need immediate attention that’s just no good! Basically, impossible to see/speak to GPs in a reasonable timeframe
