Review titled Bad experience - not patient friendly
Rated 1 star out of 5
by Anonymous - Posted on 06 December 2023
Over last few weeks , unable to get appointments for my self and my child. Had to go to urgent care. Appointments are all gone when you ring at 8.30. Then we needed travel vaccines and these specific ones are free on the NHS. I was told they haven’t got them and to get them from a local pharmacy. Where they are £35 , £38, £45 each. So for a family u are paying a huge amount. They are free on the NHS. Tetanus, Typhoid and Hepatitis A are all free travel vaccines. Why do we have to pay then. ? I have been working for the NHS for over 30 years and i am absolutely disgusted by this surgery, no appointments and no vaccines when you need them. I would rate them 2/10. When we registered in 2013 i would have given them 10/10. Over the years with change of staff/drs the service provided now is of a poor standard!

Dear Anonymous I am sorry you have had issues trying to book an appointment via the telephone. We have several ways to book an appointment, by Telephone and Patient Access you can also complete an Econsult. Please look at our website for additional information https://buckshealthservices.co.uk/carrington-house-surgery When you collected the travel forms from reception you were advised these need to be completed 6 weeks prior to travelling, you were travelling in less than 2 weeks which does not allow us enough time to process your request especially with a large group. You still decided to complete the forms, unfortunately we were not able to help with such short notice. We have given you a detailed response to your email. Kind Regards Debbie Practice Manager

Review titled Don't use technology correctly
Rated 1 star out of 5
by Anonymous - Posted on 04 September 2023
The surgery don't help themselves. Yes, they are understaffed, but they don't make use of the technology they have. They post around 2 appointments a day on patient access and only turn on econsult for about 20 minutes. Why not leave econsult on 24hrs a day and process in the order received? Much more could be done to make the service more efficient than it is today. Whenever you visit the surgery it is empty of patients but full of admin staff sitting behind the desk having a chinwag. There is no urgency to greet you. Please enable the technology to improve access to services. It is a waste of public funds buying a service you use for a tiny percentage of the time.

Dear Anonymous I am sorry you feel we are not making use of our technology. We do have patient access and Econsult and we use these within our capacity. It would be unsafe for us to leave Econsult on and work through it in order as serious issues could get missed. Our staff do not stand around and chinwag they are quite possibly discussing other patients, they are there to help and assist patients. Kind Regards

Review titled Physiotherapist appointment
Rated 3 stars out of 5
by H. Ewing - Posted on 22 June 2023
After being unable to get a phone appt with the GP I was offered an appt with the physiotherapist. I needed strong painkillers for an ongoing back problem. A really good experience and got a prescription for said painkillers. Probably could have been done over the phone which would have been better as the car journey made my back worse, so I've been up since 3.45am as sitting in the armchair is more comfortable than the bed. But that said the surgery staff are very helpful, I don't envy them their difficult job!

Review titled Appointment
Rated 1 star out of 5

It’s the worst surgery every I am always unable to get appointments. I have been on the phone 8:30am on the dot and waited 45 minutes then they say no appointments left. My son had tonsillitis they keep giving him antibiotics but no referral or being able to diagnose. I feel really let down and their service is so appalling. I understand the pressure of NHS but this surgery is at the next level. Even if you check their review on google map it states exactly how their service is running and yet nothing has been done about it.

Dear Anonymous I am sorry you have been experiencing problems getting an appointment, unfortunately as I do not know who you are I am unable to investigate this for you. Have you tried our alternative methods of booking an appointment? Patient access and econsult (details can be found on our website https://www.carringtonhousesurgery.nhs.uk/ ) You mention your son has been prescribed antibiotics so you have managed to speak to a clinician and have a diagnosis of tonsillitis. If you require further help please do call us and speak to our reception team and they will be able to assist you further. Kind Regards Practice Manager

Review titled Improving practice
Rated 4 stars out of 5
by Janet Banks - Posted on 22 June 2023
The practice at last seems to be trying very, very slowly to get back to the first class surgery we knew for over 40 years until Covid. My experience this week (having not seen a doctor since before Lockdown) was excellent with both the doctor and the new in-house physio. There's still a way to go Carrington House, but the only way is up!

Review titled Gone downhill since covid
Rated 1 star out of 5
by Anonymous - Posted on 29 June 2023
This surgery was widely known and respected as being decent prior to covid. Since then it seems to be a struggle to get anything from them and the reputation has plummeted. Phone appointments always preferred over face to face and even then they are like gold dust. You call at 8.30am and if you are a minute late you have no chance of getting anything and have to try the daily lottery again the next day. Meanwhile you are kept on hold and told to use apps which never have appointments available on them. Often too immediately at 8.30 you are told there are no appointments for the day via a recorded message which is often a lie. There are a few good doctors here if you are luckily enough to get to see them on the most part I don’t rate them at all now. There is a huge number of admin staff there who are on the most part quite rude and unhelpful. If you visit in person they take an age to greet you. Really feel like they don’t care about the community and simply don’t want to see people. Covid seems to have made people lazy but there seems to be very little incentive for anyone to do better as most people seem to accept that the service is poor.

Review titled An Improving practice
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Anonymous - Posted on 30 June 2023
As we are aware, there are staff shortages within the Uk's National Health Service. That said, my experience with the surgery today was really positive. Staff were helpful and friendly. In the absence of a doctor's appointment, I was offered an on the day physio appointment. This is virtually unheard of. However, an amazing service to be offered as it eradicates waiting times after the doctor's referral. The first contact physio was most helpful offering advice on how to care for my back with exercise, medication and icing. I believe the first contact physiotherapist is also able to prescribe medication. However, since I mentioned that I had medication, this was not necessary. I left the surgery feeling a lot better as I was also offered a reset of my back which immediately made a difference. Additionally, I was offered a referral to an external physio for another problem I have. Overall, the service offered to me today, was amazing.

Review titled Great doctor but the practice needs to improve
Rated 3 stars out of 5
by Anonymous - Posted on 14 June 2023
The Doctor I saw today was very helpful and positive, he gave me the right medication and exercise. So I was very happy with the Doctor. Unfortunately the practice itself has gone down, it is impossible to get a same day appointment, it took three days to get an appointment. I have been with this surgery for many years and have seen a drastic change, appointments are impossible to get, even after having to wait an hour to get through, there are never enough doctors in the surgery and doctors never stay there long enough to know a patient. I feel that the duty of care of a patients has gone. So I would hope that an improvement is made. It used to be a very caring and good surgery and that has been lost.

Thank you for taking the time to leave a review. I am sorry this has been your experience. Unfortunately as you have posted anonymously I am unable to look into this in detail for you. We have been very short staffed recently and recruiting doctors is near impossible. We have recently recruited a paramedic and First contact Physio and this will help towards offering more appointments. The phone lines are extremely busy at 8.30am. You can use Patient access to book an appointment online which maybe able to assist you for future appointments, If you do not have access please contact the reception team. We also offer Econsult (please visit our website) Kind Regards Practice Manager
