  1. Review titled Come to the practice or phone a paramedic

    I asked for a home visit for my mother and was told that these are only for people who are house bound and to call the paramedic or bring her to the practice. She has severe flu like symptoms, severe migraine and aching muscles, she has picked this bug up from a family member who is 18 years old healthy but was in bed with same symptoms for 4 days and has now recovered. Due to my mum being 66 she can not fight the problem on her own. When she moves she coughs then struggles to breath. I said a home visit would suffice and that i think calling the paramedic was not appropriate at this time and would be an unnecessary strain on the NHS. I made it clear that it was not a life or death situation but i could not get her to the doctors and would like a visit to check her over and get some antibiotics prescribed to help her recover. I was told this is not an option and to call a paramedic. I myself had a home visit from my doctor at the same practice for suspected appendicitis so i know this is an option but for some reason it is not for my mother.

I am sorry that you are not happy with the advice you were given when you spoke to us about your mum. As a general rule, the GPs do only conduct home visits to our housebound patients, but this would change depending upon the severity of a patients illness.     Long covid lead and staffs’ continue to give me thorough, detailed, and concise advice and support - in connection with my symptoms and I, for one, cannot thank them enough for the mental and emotional support. Especially when we face daily scoffing that covid isn’t real, covid is gone. Castlefields GP’s are second to none. Consistent staff who work their socks off. I cannot thank all of you enough for everything you have done for my parents, brothers, and children/grandchildren and me. Sending sincere thanks.

    I today tried to book for the second time an appointment to see my GP as my wife was told that she would be better doing it online. First time it stated that it was temporarily unavailable do to demand and now it says its totally unavailable due to high demand. What do they expect when probably only 2 GP,S there to see patients and takes forever to get through on the phone ?

    Dear Dave Thank you for leaving your review about Castlefields Health Centre on the NHS website. On certain rare occasions, we have to close triage simply because we have reached capacity that is deemed safe for that day. This does not mean that urgent requests will not be dealt with. Patients can still contact the Practice by telephone if a request is urgent and triage is either passed its opening hours (triage opening times are 07.30 hours - 16.00 hours), or if we have had to close triage early because we have reached capacity for that day. We introduced the total triage system in early March of this year, so that patients can make an admin or medical request without the need for ringing the Practice, but unfortunately for our patients, sometimes the phones lines can still be busy at times throughout the day. Patients are very happy with the triage system because they are afforded a same day response from a clinician. I would like to clarify your point about the number of GPs we have on-site. We would never have only two GPs on duty. We have a system in place that sees us have a minimum number of clinicians on-site and that we offer no less than a specific number of appointments per day. I am sorry that you have experienced difficulties trying to obtain an appointment for your wife. I hope my response reassures you that we are here for our patients throughout our core opening hours of 08.00 hours - 18.30 hours.     I recently went to the doctors for an asthma review. I was told I would be getting a prescription, which would be available the next day. I gave it a couple days to make sure the chemist's would have the prescription. I was told no prescription had been sent, so I contacted the doctors, explained the situation and was told a doctor would call me back. 2 days went by no contact from the doctors. So I ring again and again I was told someone would contact me. That was 2 days ago, still no one has bothered. It's new asthma medication as the medication I have doesn't work. Am sick of ringing and being told the same lies

  5. Review titled Great Practice - and Doctors

    I have over the last month or so had to see a doctor at the practise 3 times. The practise has introduced online booking of appointments which has cut out the age old practice of waiting in call lines for extended periods of time. By providing the details of why you need an appointment the doctors are triaging patients and seeing them in order of need rather than who got through first on the phone, which in my opinion is doing the right thing for the patients and looks like it is working brilliantly. The doctors have been amazing with my medical needs and I have received exemplary care and support, so I would like to say a massive thank you to all of the staff at Castlefields surgery in Runcorn.

    Same day service - brilliant. Called Castlefields doctors first thing in the morning, had a bit of a wait but got through fairly quickly. Given appointment for that day, seen doctor and all sorted. Brilliant doctors, can't fault them!

    Had to go to doctors a couple of times in last couple of months but could only see a paramedic and 2nd time a nurse, after being told I would see a doctor. Don't really like going but had a few things I wanted checking. My appointment was rushed and only managed to speak about my main issue before being pointed to the door. Waiting room had only 2 people in, left more worried than what I was before I went. Was given a fit note saying needed physio but no mention on it of seeing a specialist appointment would be made. Just puts you off going, wonder if that's why they do it?

    My whole experience was a pleasant surprise from start to finish. Firstly, it was very easy to contact the surgery, my call was answered very quickly, and after a few short exploratory questions, I was not expecting what happened next, which was to be offered an appointment to see a GP the same day! Given all that has been published in the press of late about GP availability, this was a very pleasant surprise and a great start. The reception team member I spoke to over the telephone about my appointment, was very respectful, polite, discrete and reassuring, and was very much in tune with my needs. When I arrived at the Health Centre, that continued. The same reception team, if not the same team member was very welcoming, friendly, polite and efficient. They went out of their way to make the check in experience very easy indeed. I should also mention at this point, that there was ample parking right outside the health centre, and that meant for a stress free experience for me, and that I was on time for my appointment. And speaking of being on time, I arrived 5 mins before my appointment time, and pretty much straight after I sat down in what was a very clean, well maintained, calming and informative waiting area (there was lots of useful information and advice on show), I was called by a GP for my appointment, right on time. The GP that I saw, as with all team members that I'd interacted with beforehand, was very reassuring, understanding and genuinely interested in me. They really did go out of my way to put me at ease. They were clearly listening to what I was saying, and very interested in helping me, and I think that assisted with the understanding of the root cause of the symptoms and the next steps. The GP did a great job of asking probing questions in support of this, and also in explaining and checking my understanding throughout. I was asked several times if I was comfortable with treatment and next steps, which was once again, very reassuring. After my appointment had ended, and it did not feel rushed at all, booking a follow up appointment, was so simple. The very helpful reception team member worked around my needs, and booked me an appointment for three working days time, and when I returned, the whole of my brilliant experience was repeated all over again, so this was no one off. All in all, every single member of the team went out of their way to make it as pleasant an experience as possible. Thanks very much.

    94 times i have tried to get through to drs on behalf of my elderly father. Finally get into a call queue in position 5. 10 minutes later position 4…then 10 minutes later back to position 5!!! What an absolute joke. Sort out your management as this service is awful.
